I took some time off X. Not for any particular reason. What did I miss? Is it worth coming back to?

Looking for guests for a new podcast: ‘Platform for Change’. Seeking people that have risen to a high position and are using that to affect change. Looking for positive impact stories, and also keen to hear from people that attract a bit of controversy, e.g @elonmusk. Ideas?

@drianwright At the cost of hundred of millions of dollars per kilometre, we won’t see an underground transmission network. The cheaper option will be to abort the entire project and pay the loss if the government can’t get the stakeholder buy in that it needs.

Yes I think the cost of building underground power lines would be massive in regional locations. But the benefits would be substantial as well.
Chris Pomfret@CJPomfret

@drianwright City powerlines should be underground. Regional would be super expensive wouldn’t it?

This was served to an elderly patient in a regional public hospital in NSW. The standard of meals being served in public hospitals has been an issue for a long time. It's a disgrace. Why can't Governments fix this? #auspol #nswpol

Will say it again re ABC.... In this super-election year with elections in over 40 countries (and locally in QLD, NT, ACT and council elections in NSW & Vic) - all coinciding with a shift to populist authoritarianism, wars in the middle east and elsewhere, and the breakdown of our climate - never have we needed our public broadcaster more. Democracy is literally on the line. Time to decide where you stand, the legacy you want to leave and what you'll tell your kids and grandkids about your actions during this key time #auspol

Looking for the 🧵? There is none. That’s just the thing to do on this platform now.

This is a paperclip 📎 🧵 … I decided to take a photo of this paperclip that I found in my drawer. Everybody needs to know that I found it. Why? because it is the type of mundane nonsense that people seem to put on this platform now. I have strong opinions about paperclips.

@AlboMP So how about the division of Australia caused leading up to, and resulting from The Voice referendum?

PM Anthony Albanese has finally issued a statement on the violence that took place at a Pro-Palestinian rally in Melbourne on Friday night, forcing the evacuation of a synagogue. Albanese: "This is a day when we pause to give thanks for the sacrifices so many Australians have made to keep our nation free and peaceful. " All of us have a responsibility to preserve that peace here at home. To maintain the harmony and respect that unites us. "It is always worth repeating: there is no place in our nation for hatred or prejudice of any kind."

@drianwright @xanthe_gregory I published a study on these bulk supply pipelines a few years ago. The primary example was near Newcastle, but I also tested along the pipelines in Sydney mentioned here. The published paper speaks to those results.

Here are the ANZECC guidelines for metals. Lead can be a very dangerous toxin for aquatic life! It can also accumulate in the soil, and there are guidelines for lead in sediment too!

@drianwright I agree it’s a worry. I’ve been reporting this for at least a month. EPA and Sydney water environmental liaison officer seem fine with leaving this paint to decay into the environment. It seems to only matter to humans…

@kang020838 @drianwright Plenty of us care about these issues. Very few have the luxury of being in an employment position where we can pursue these things for our work however.

@drianwright I wonder why you seem to be the only scientist who cares enough about these issues. Where are all the others ?? I just hope you continue to bear witness to the destruction - it’s a hard though noble task and so very necessary to hold the perpetrators to account .
