@danmachin93 @DoctorKoolBeans @sturge_p More game time, more touches, more decisions more interactions. It’s a no brainer. Raised questions around maybe needing more volunteers but you could have one coach from each team take each 3v3 game. Two 20 min games where they swap…look at @PeterPrickett work on this.

@KevWeir1 @number_6teen @sturge_p I have a bigger issue with kids playing 11v11 at 12 years old.
Causes teams to fold due to number of players needed, tiny goalie's playing in adult goals, and kids barely getting a kick of the ball all match.
I hope this also gets addressed as part of the shake up

@sturge_p Can't disagree with that at all.
I deliberately kept my squad for 5v5 at 7 kids to maximize involvement on the pitch as much as possible.

Rob, if children CHOOSE football at the very start of their involvement in sport the least we can do is to try to ensure that they can play a full “game” as often as possible👍

@sturge_p Hi Pete, do you not think that the problem U7s and U8s with 5v5 is a lot to do with teams having a squad of 10 players? I crunched some numbers and they spend more time getting splinters than they do on the pitch. It adds up to hours over the course of a season.

@sturge_p I'm not sold on the idea of 2v2 or 3v3 yet.
Can't help but think 4v4 would be a better option, and allow outfield players to play in triangles and the GK to form a diamond.

The new Play Phase for U5&6 year olds starts with 2v2. I would like 3v3 at U7&8 and delay 5v5 until U9&10. I think this is an appropriate “scaling” to ensure a balance between involvement, skill development physical demands. Our youngest players have to have more involvement .

@sturge_p What format would you recommend for primary aged players? My U9 team plays 7aside but the league ends in March which means that we'd be free to try something different

@sturge_p Couldn't agree more on the 11v11. It's ridiculous the size of the pitch compared to the size of the players, GK especially.
Also feel it's a reason lots of teams fold in the older age groups as it's hard to recruit squads of 15, and comes at the cost of other team's existence.

We have to demand a change and part of the change would be to introduce smaller formats and delay the crazy rush towards 11v11. Put player development first and get our children playing more.

@sturge_p Watched a 7v7 today. Two squads of 10, 2x20 min halves. One kid got less than 20 mins basically two 8 mins spells. Coach played his better player most of the game despite being well ahead. Waste of time, and don’t get me started on the cost of playing for this team…🤬
