About 625 Americans died after being struck by lightning in the past 25 years
In the same time, 4 people died after getting measles
Lightning strikes pose a 150-times greater threat than measles
This is a public health emergency
We must stop cases of lightning strikes
To raise an obvious point:
Anyone who sincerely wants peace in Gaza ought to call for an immediate & unconditional surrender by Hamas. No more bombs would fall & every hostage would be released.
Unlike a temporary ceasefire, a surrender could actually lead to durable peace.
@goddek The vaccine one is stupid. Children would die without certain vaccines. Why don’t you look up morbidity/mortality rates from Polio from pre vaccine and post vaccine.
#8 Childhood Vaccines. While children in the 60s only received 5 doses of vaccines, by 2019 the number had risen to 72 - and the trend is rising. Each vaccination has an impact on the microbiome, which likely leads to significant long-term physical and psychological consequences.
Until the 1970, the majority of the people were fit as a fiddle! No keto, vegan, or paleo diets. No home aerobics or gym memberships. No fancy fitness tech or wellness influencers. They also weren't drinking protein shakes or counting calories.
So, what went wrong? A THREAD 🧵⬇️
“Zach LaVine can score the basketball…Does he impact winning? Zach LaVine has been to 1 playoff series in 9 years. He's played a total of 4 playoff basketball games…I'm looking at $40, $43, $46 & $49 million for a guy who—to this point—has not impacted winning to the level that his money says he should impact…”

Today, on Transgender Day of Remembrance, we grieve the transgender Americans whose lives were taken this year.
There is no place for hate or discrimination in America. No one should lose their life simply for being themselves.
@WSJ@_melaevans Getting the majority of hospitals in the US truly capable of taking care of critical/emergent pediatric cases would require an overhauling of the healthcare system. This readiness score is a pipe dream.
@WSJ@_melaevans Better outcomes for children at hospitals with Pediatric EDs/PICUs, duh?
The real problem: The United States does not support pediatric healthcare enough for every ER to be capable of gold standard pediatric care.
Take your sick children to an ER with pediatric specialists.
🎧 Listen: In today's episode of The Journal podcast, @_melaevans explains why so many emergency rooms in the U.S. are unprepared to treat children, and one family recounts their son’s experience in an E.R. on.wsj.com/3SLV8Rhon.wsj.com/3SLV8Rh
There are innocent people all over the world who hope because of our nation, who believe in a better life because of us, and who are desperate to not be forgotten by us.
Time is of the essence – I know we have our divisions at home.
We have to get past them.
Yesterday, in discussions with the leaders of Israel and Egypt, I secured an agreement for a first shipment of humanitarian assistance from the United Nations to Palestinian civilians in Gaza – providing an opening for sustained delivery of life-saving humanitarian assistance.
@lola_chambless@VUmedicine Congratulations. Not sure why this showed up in my feed since I am burning out of academia; “professor” is something that is a toxic goal for so many junior faculty. I do want medical students to know that if you end your career as an asst prof, you are just as important.
@POTUS Hold the world together. What about our country that is a mess? Our country is a mess Joe. Healthcare is a shitshow here. Please care about that. $100 billion would save so many American families. So many American children. Use that money for our healthcare. Pleased
American leadership is what holds the world together.
Our alliances are what keep us safe.
And our values are what make us a partner that other nations want to work with.
We put all of that at risk if we walk away from Ukraine or turn our back on Israel.
Hamas’s terrorist attacks against Israel.
The need for humanitarian assistance in Gaza.
Russia’s ongoing brutal war against Ukraine.
We are at a global inflection point that is bigger than party or politics.
Tonight, I'll address the nation at 8:00 PM ET from the Oval Office.
@amyfaithho@doximity@ACEPNow@EmergencyDocs There was a week in PICU fellowship a child died everyday for 7 days in a row. Brutal work. I’m scarred working in the picu, but it’s what is most meaningful to me; being there for families during the darkest times. I am not “happy” but deeply scarred and deeply fulfilled.
EM: One of the least happy specialties OUTSIDE of work.
Why?
I think this is a simple case of we-know-too-much.
I can name a million ways to die, many ways I’d rather not live, but only a handful of ways I want to live.
An aneurysm that decided today was the day, that coronary plaque that just couldn’t hang anymore, the next pandemic yet to be named, that nagging fatigue you called stress and life that’s now named stage 4 cancer, the car brakes that decided to not work at 75mph, the wayward bullet that was just wrong place wrong time for you…call it a skewed sample size from marinating in a world of death and disease, but I live a world that assumes chaos and destruction — because that’s literally what we see.
So when you leave the hospital doors and go back to the world with windows, non-fluorescent light, and alarms not constantly beeping…it stays with you.
I wouldn’t call it PTSD or burnout, but an astute awareness of reality and possibility…in the darkest of realities.
It’s probably a burden of what we do, and a necessary defense mechanism that we naturally become a bit callous in all parts of life.
I was accidentally and very publicly rude to a faculty member on a course this morning.
Still feeling absolutely mortified. They were very gracious in accepting my apology, after I realised rather too late.
Not quite sure how to process that… 🤦♂️
@DoctorPICU@Dr_ScottK And I directly address the hardships faced by pediatricians in several of my videos. The entire video above is about challenges regarding asthma medications. I’m sorry you can’t look past the costume to see the issues I’m tackling. Everybody else can.
@DGlaucomflecken@Dr_ScottK I am. I do. I respect what your craft and platform. My annoyance is that most adult docs think pediatricians are lollipop/sticker giving-costume wearing jolly docs. And you are perpetuating that stereotype. Being in pediatrics is really tough these days.
@DoctorPICU@Dr_ScottK Might I suggest directing your anger at the systems perpetuating the lack of support for pediatrics, instead of somebody working to change those systems through education and humor. We’re on the same team, unicorn headband and all.
@DGlaucomflecken@Dr_ScottK I am. Years of piss poor compensation and support compared to adult specialties- while trying to save kids’ lives will do that to you. Adult docs have no idea what pediatrics is.
