It's really difficult to model population effectively in grand strategy games because some pivotal events are right out of a fantasy book.
For example the entire island of Sicily was taken back from (lowest estimate) 3 000 Abbasids by (highest estimate) 170 Normans.

I only moved to Vermont a few years ago. I imagine Church St was once a super vibrant, fun, weird, sorta crunchy but super cool place to hang. Kinda like how Pearl St in Boulder once was.
But now it’s definitely a shithole. Most of the legacy businesses are gone. Chain restaurants and homeless.

I’ve posted about this before but Burlington had the single worst homeless problem I’ve seen in my life; it’s completely unacceptable for a city with the size (tiny) and amenities (nil) of Burlington to have an LA-skid row across the entirety of its downtown.

@SimpleWhitePill @mattforney Worth noting that this graph probably understates how right-wing Anglo-Americans are, because it excludes people who self-reported "American" as their ethnicity. A lot of those people are Anglos, and I think they tilt heavily to the right.

While the industry is pouring resources into programs without GC (rust), I think the Jane Street OCaml folks have it figured out with OxCaml. Almost all your code paths are cold and GC is net positive. 1% of your code is performance sensitive. Don't create GC pressure there.

@husafell_stone I think Kyung-Wha Chung is great, and kind of underrated. Uchida isn't at the top of my list of pianists, but I think she's very good in some repertoire. I've liked some recordings by Cho-Liang Lin quite a bit too. And def some good Asian conductors- Ozawa, Myung-whun Chung.

@UsingLyft The standard is a reasonable fear of death or great bodily injury. I don't know enough about the Chud case to know if that applies, but in the Anthony case it doesn't sound like it does. There are other distinguishing features, but that's the central issue.

ChudTheBuilder shot a man who attacked him outside a courthouse in Clarksville & accidentally grazed himself in the process. Before it escalated, he asked the man if he was going to “chimp out” the man then walked up & sucker punched him. It is unclear if the man survived.

@GhettoCode @JosieMarcellino The definition of provocation is fairly narrow, and I don't think anything he did that I've heard meets it (insulting someone is not enough by itself). The central question is whether or not he had a reasonable fear of suffering death or great bodily harm.

@JosieMarcellino Not sure that always stands. Usually, but not always. But Tennessee Code § 39-11-611(e)(2) is all we really need to know here. It basically says you can't claim self defense if you provoked someone to illegally use force first. Open and shut case. Dude's getting some years.

But there's an objective discrepancy in the casting of actors of Italian descent in ancient Rome and Greece movies and in Mafia movies.
In this film in particular, the casting and the overall aesthetic seems odd.
