Israel can confirm who it killed, exactly where and at what time, to the centimetre for praise. But blow up children by mistake. Fuck Israel.

@Dom7Wilson @olvrlstr because I was not discussing whether Emirates and Rwanda are sportswashing (Emirates is the UAE anyway), so it was irrelevant to what I was talking about. I was discussing the difficulty of facing a sportswashing project, not who is sportswashing and how.

The scale is different, but the idea that a team playing at the Emirates stadium and sponsored by Rwanda isn’t engaged in sports washing is absurd
Miguel Delaney@MiguelDelaney

@plasandrunt but he's mostly just lost the title to the biggest sportswashing project in history, who have spent much much more, with close to double the wage bill.

@MiguelDelaney @olvrlstr Sorry this is a bit patronising. The subsequent comment - whilst caveating that the scale is not the same - pointed out that Emirates and Rwanda are also to an extent sportswashing. You appeared to dispute this on ownership grounds and this where the confusion emanates from.

Some corrections: You inherited 2% inflation. It doubled in 12 months after you became Chancellor. It is still 50% above the rate you inherited and 50% above target. It should fall to target 2% this summer. So two years to get back to where you started! What’s to boast about that? Interest rates have been falling everywhere. UK cuts, which you don’t control, have been fewer and smaller because of your inflation record. We still have highest interest rate in G7. The Bank has made some cuts for the simple reason the economy is flat on its back. Well done. Borrowing is slowly falling from a very high base. Almost six years after the pandemic-induced recession, we’re still borrowing around 4% GDP. And borrowing costs are the highest in the G7. Retail sales are up in recent months. We’ll see how long that’s sustained. But the hospitality and construction industries are in crisis. Plus our massive services sector is stagnant. UK fastest G7 economy? That’s simply a bare-faced lie. We grew by 0.1% in Q3 2025; and another 0.1% in Q4. End of.
Rachel Reeves@RachelReevesMP

⬇️ Inflation down ⬇️ Interest rates down ⬇️ Borrowing down ⬆️ Retail sales up ⬆️ UK fastest growing European G7 economy There's more to do, but our economic plan is the right one. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@MiguelDelaney @olvrlstr Surely you’re not saying Sportswashing is only about ownership? You can be guilty of sportswashing through sponsorship and association

@olvrlstr Crucially, neither the UAE nor Rwanda can make decisions for Arsenal. UAE can with City. It really isn’t the same thing
Miguel Delaney@MiguelDelaney

@olvrlstr Sponsorship doesn’t make it a project. Ownership does. Neither is desirable but they’re not comparable.

Mikel Arteta Probably the most unlikeable manager in the history of the Premier League, nobody comes close to him Arsenal fans aside, every other fan base despises him, and for good reason Firstly he does not know what “stay in your managerial box” means Secondly he contributed massively to how boring the Premier League is these days with his set piece tactics. We are at the stage where most teams are now doing the same thing resulting in a poor viewership for the mutual fans Most importantly is how he handed Thomas Partey. The news broke years ago of his “alleged”multiple rape accusations. Instead of doing the right like Man City and suspending the player he acted like nothing was going on. “Thomas will come back stronger” “Thomas has a minor injury” No mate Thomas Partey was knee deep in accusations and you didn’t act in the correct and proper manner Arsenal fans ask yourself one thing. How would you feel if one of the victims was your relative? Once Arteta is sacked in the summer his legacy won’t be for uniting the fan base and making the club challenge again It will be how he handled the Thomas Partey situation

@tmrohan @hkanji That’s the same with any fund return structure though - it’s not specific to VC.

VCs earn more with a $1B fund that returns 2x (poor) than a $200m fund that does a 5x (exceptional). That is the root of everything that is wrong with VC today.

@raptorAFC Exactly. Okay, we had that one summer last year where we had a one off splurge that we had definitely earned. Other than that, it’s the market that has changed rather than us.

@afneil @British_Airways I’ve done pretty much exactly the same for the same reasons on a upcoming trip to Dubai. The current loyalty scheme basically disincentivises loyalty which is actually very pro consumer as we are no longer tied or biaised to BA. But makes no sense from their point of view.

A case study in how @British_Airways, by setting impossibly high tier point hurdles, is going to lose a lot of money/big paying customers. Planning my next trip to NYC in Spring. Normally I’d do business Nice-London on BA, return first class London-NYC-London and business London-Nice, fitting in a few working days in London there and back. All up the fares would come to around £5,000 for flights in second half of April. A lot of money — especially since it comes out of my pocket. Nobody picks up my expenses. But at my age I like to travel in comfort. And I like the BA crews. However now that the tier point hurdle is too high for renewing guest list status for all but perpetual travellers, why bother planning a schedule round BA flights? I’ve booked Nice-NYC-Nice first class return on Delta for just over €3,000. No brainer, really. Direct flight, almost half the price. And @British_Airways will lose £5,000. Plus much more if this now becomes my regular NYC schedule. I can’t tell you the number of people I know now doing similar flight schedule planning which simply removes BA from the planning, when it used to be at the centre. And, yes, I know it’s most definitely a first-world problem! But BA makes most of its money from passengers flying first/business. With fewer of us the fares of premium/economy passengers will rise. Well done @British_Airways. How to stuff loyal, high-paying customers of longstanding for no good reason whatsoever. Hi @Delta. Thanks for reserving me seat 1A both ways! Can’t wait.
