Toronto, ON, September 16, 2024 – After 36 years in policing, dedicated to the city of Toronto, I will be retiring and will not seek re-election as President of the Toronto Police Association. It has been my greatest honour to serve our members, first as a Uniform Field Director for eight years and then as President for almost four years. With our strong team of directors and staff, I am very proud of what we have accomplished. We navigated through a global pandemic, secured workable shift schedules, and positioned the TPA as a national leader in police advocacy, guiding conversations and influencing decision-makers on issues such as police funding and bail reform. It is my greatest disappointment that securing negotiated collective agreements has been impossible. However, we are confident going into arbitration and this change in TPA leadership will not distract us from our unifying goal of securing a compensation and benefits package that respects the work our members do every day. Our Board will continue to see this process through, and I am committed to serving as President until a successor has been chosen through our election process this fall. It is simply time for me to move on. Like our members, I have spent countless days, nights, weekends, and holidays away from my family. It is time for me to give back to them. I want to thank my police association colleagues from across Canada. Their leadership and sacrifice often works behind the scenes but their commitment is admirable. I want to thank the thousands of community members who have expressed their support for our police service, and I want to thank those whose dedication to community service and civic responsibility has made our job easier. Most importantly, I want to thank the more than 8,000 men and women of the Toronto Police Service. Their dedication and professionalism make me proud every day. Thank you. Jon Reid ( @TPAReid ) President

The Ontario Provincial Police Association was represented in Quebec City this week by VP David Sabatini, Directors Lynn Neale, Terri Hubbert, Mike Adair and OPPA Legal Counsel James Girvin at the 2024 Canadian Police Association Biennial Meeting. The CPA is the country's largest policing advocacy organization in Canada, and welcomed delegates representing close to 60,000 civilian+sworn members from across Canada. National and International delegates in attendance shared valuable information on a number of topics to assist us in representing our Members here in Ontario. VP Sabatini updated the delegates on the new OPPA Civilian and Collective Agreements and James Girvin was part of a legal panel and spoke about body worn cameras. Key takeaways for our OPPA delegates were insights on electric vehicles, mental health, and strategies for recruitment and retention of sworn and civilian Members. VP Sabatini was honoured to be the Master of Ceremonies for the CPA President's Dinner and Awards of Excellence along with the 1st Vice President of the Association des policiers provinciaux du Quebec Dominic Roberge. Thank you to CPA President Tom Stamatakis and his team and the host Quebec Police Associations for this valuable opportunity to learn from and network with our Police Association colleagues from across Canada and beyond. #CPABiennial
