Motorists across Johannesburg could face major frustration after the City of Johannesburg’s licensing department has reportedly run out of the special face value paper used to print licence discs and other official vehicle licensing documents-marking the second such incident this year. The shortage is reportedly affecting licensing centres across the entire city, meaning residents attempting to renew vehicle licences may not be assisted. Sources allege the crisis stems from one City department allegedly owing another millions of rand, resulting in delays in the procurement of the secure paper required for printing official documents. The situation has raised fresh concerns around financial management, internal administration and the ongoing collapse of basic service delivery within the metro. Motorists now fear possible fines and penalties due to delays beyond their control, while questions continue to mount over why contingency plans were not put in place after a similar disruption earlier this year. Frustration is also growing after senior officials allegedly failed to provide clear answers regarding what caused the latest shortage, why it was allowed to happen again, and when normal services will resume. Residents are demanding urgent intervention and accountability as the backlog threatens to impact thousands of motorists across Johannesburg. @CoJTransport @Jaca_Patrick @JoburgMPD @DadaMorero @CityofJoburgZA @Dotransport @TrafficRTMC

PAID MATERNITY LEAVE DROPS SHARPLY The proportion of South African employers offering four months of fully paid maternity leave has fallen sharply, dropping from 58.5% in 2023 to 41.7% in 2025, according to Remchannel’s latest Employee Benefits Guide. The decline comes amid changing parental leave regulations following a Constitutional Court ruling that supports shared parental leave, expanding the potential cost burden for employers as both parents become eligible for leave benefits. Remchannel Managing Director Lindiwe Sebesho (pictured) says companies are now reviewing employee benefits more carefully as they adapt to shifting legal and financial realities. Further changes may be on the horizon, with draft labour law amendments published in February 2026 proposing a unified shared parental leave framework. Full story - ln.run/wmJHj

South Africa has a world class higher education system. Our public universities go toe-to-toe with some of the best in the world. They are under enormous strain right now. We must properly fund them and defend them against this onslaught by Daily Investor and its ilk.

Many of South Africa’s biggest universities are gradually being undermined by mismanagement, corruption, and political interference, leading to dysfunction and potential collapse. dailyinvestor.com/south-africa/1…

Help me understand. We are chronically underfunding local government, requesting them to cut budgets. National Treasury has all but admitted to an outdated municipal division of revenue model. And our answer is to get a loan from France, for, *checks notes*, fund municipalities?

France is in talks to lend South Africa €100 million (R1.9 billion) to support a programme to regenerate its rundown cities. businesstech.co.za/news/governmen…
