Today I would like to honour and pay tribute to my beloved late cousin Peter Zezel (April 22, 1965 - May 26, 2009). Peter played in the @NHL for 15 seasons, from 1984-1999. Peter would have been 60 years old today. He was a great person who was my childhood hero. Peter had a heart of gold and a fondness for people less fortunate. He was constantly sharing smiles and laughter with family, friends, fans, and even strangers who he would happily sit and talk with for hours like they were old friends. Peter made everyone feel like they were a somebody and that’s because to him they were. Peter loved his fans and always spoke highly of them and made time for them. True success is when your accomplishments match your character and that is what Peter embodied. On top of being an incredible athlete, he was humble, hard working, charitable, and kind. He had class and immense integrity. Please everyone if you could take a moment to share a fond memory you have of Peter, it would be appreciated. Join me in doing a random act of kindness today to celebrate his life and legacy. I will never forget him. Rest in peace Peter. You were loved. 🫶🏻@MapleLeafs @NHLFlyers @Capitals @FlyersAlumni @StLouisBlues @NJDevils @wendelclark17 #StarfishClub @thereal_tiedomi @douggilmour @TorontoMarlies @HockeyHistorian @hockeynight @HockeyCanada @OHLHockey

Delighted to umpire my 150th @WorldNetball_ International match. Thanks to everyone who supports me to stay at this level and for as long as I have. But the biggest thanks goes to my amazing family particularly my wife who hold the fort so fantastically when I’m not there. ❤️💕

@henrywinter @jimbo2556 Check out @StuCarrington07 who has written a few chapters on unconscious bias in his book Blowing the Whistle:The Psychology of Football Officiaiting. Of course it exists. It exists in every aspect of society, so it would be unrealistic to expect not in officiaiting of any sport
English

@jimbo2556 how does anyone know somebody else has an unconscious bias about something, Jim? It's speculation.
English

@henrywinter I agree Henry I still say the Premier League refs are more accurate than the best players on the pitch. For instance why is a 45% on goal shooting average okay, but the ref being less than 100% on their calls not okay? It’s down to fans believing they could ref but never play!
English

@StuCarrington07 Great point Stu. I do feel that an elite athlete who has played at some of the highest levels of the game somehow has empathy & what I call a players ref, versus those that are more technical refs. Agreed though nothing like having that inventory of ref experience to call upon
English

I'm not against fast-tracking officials per se, but I'd like to know the evidence behind such endorsement. Experience and training are consistent features of good officiating performance. Training, engagement, and improved support is probably where focus should be. No quick fix.
Henry Winter@henrywinter
Premier League referees make mistakes but they're honest mistakes. All the online rants about corruption are nonsense. The standard could undeniably be better. Talent should be fast-tracked. It's sad that some good young refs are giving up early as they just don’t want the abuse.

@ENOfficiating I remember a great many conversations with Zena in my time with EN. A wonderful lady that always saw the best in people and as @GaryBurgessIUA has already said, always a wonderful smile. RIP Zena

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of our dear friend Zena Johnston.
Zena was a much loved A Award Assessor, International Technical Official and the Regional Officiating Lead for the West Midlands…

@edslater Was great being at Eden Park in Auckland the other night for the All Blacks v England game Ed. I think you would have enjoyed being part of that sold out crowd. A great game for the fans and players!!!!

Two years on…
Two years ago today I was diagnosed with MND. As far as statistics are concerned, I had a 50% chance of living up to this point but I am still here and despite the complete decline in my physical body, I am pleased to be here. I wrote a poem last year to mark the first year after my diagnosis and so I thought I would do the same thing this year. I will keep going every year I can.
P.S. It’s coming home 😁

@kjlax10 @WorldLacrosse I feel that the addition of 2 point line would make it Unsafe for the women’s sixes game. Very much the similar rules for both men’s and women’s.

The clock is ticking ⏰ shoot your shot! 🥍

@LacrosseNetwork If the free hand was holding the stick then legal, otherwise,Hold all day.
English

@stevekaney @refsupportuk On this basis then I assume someone could come in and start abusing you at your workplace. I somehow can’t imagine that would be tolerated. People say it’s part of sport. It’s not should it be.
English

@refsupportuk “… coaches & parents well within their right to abuse the ref”
Where do you start unpicking that statement?!
English

@TSNDaveNaylor Lovely to see your mum still out there curling Dave.. Hope the family is well👏👏👏👏
