I am heartbroken by the killing of Joan Sebastian Guerrero. He was 26 years old—a husband and a father to a 3-year-old girl. My prayers are with his family, his loved ones, and his community in neighboring Maine. No family should ever lose a father this way, and no one should ever have to watch it happen. We need a full, independent, public, and swift investigation and accountability. Now. America’s law enforcement officers do dangerous and necessary work—mission-critical work that can only be done well and faithfully with the trust of the people America’s law enforcement swears an oath to serve. That trust is built on professionalism, transparency, respect for human life, and accountability. Right now, that trust is being extinguished. And I will not quit fighting until we get answers, accountability, and safety for every community in the United States of America.

I spoke with DHS Secretary Mullin last night and urged him to cease all non-urgent vehicle stops in the wake of yesterday’s deadly Biddeford shooting. I am encouraged that the Department has agreed to do so. An impartial investigation into the shooting in Biddeford needs to proceed, as the details surrounding this tragedy are important. It is extremely unfortunate that the agent involved did not have a body-worn camera. In April, measures that I authored in the Homeland Security funding bill became law, including $20 million for expanded use of body-worn cameras, $2 million for de-escalation training, and a 17% increase in the independent Office of Inspector General’s budget to investigate matters such as this shooting. The Democratic government shutdown delayed enactment and implementation of these important safety measures. While it is clear ICE needs to improve its performance, it is important to remember that the work ICE does to protect our country goes far beyond immigration enforcement. ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is tasked with combating cartels, human smuggling, child exploitation, forced labor, and more. Eliminating ICE would make our country less safe and endanger the lives and welfare of countless individuals.

The illegal who tried to run down an ICE agent (and got shot and killed) had a Social Security card. We were told they don’t get SSNs, can’t access benefits, and they don’t get driver’s licenses. Yet here we are. And we’re supposed to believe they’re not voting in our elections too? Give me a break.

I want to ask the students screaming “Death to America”, do you have any idea what happens when American values die? Because I do. My family fled Iran, a country where freedom died. You don’t know what you have until it’s gone. You think America is oppressive because you have never experienced real oppression. You think silence is violence because you’ve never been silenced. You think words are dangerous because you have never watched a government drag someone away for speaking them. You think capitalism is evil because you have never stood in a bread line. You think borders are immoral because you have never had to flee across one. You think revolution is romantic because you have never had a revolution take everything from you. I have. And that’s why I refuse to be quiet.

🚨A CLINTON-APPOINTED Activist Judge ordered ICE to RELEASE an illegal alien who hijacked a plane. The illegal alien, Maikel Guerra Morales from Cuba, was convicted in 2003 of aircraft piracy and conspiracy to interfere with a flight crew after he hijacked a plane and forced it to fly to Key West, Florida. ICE took Morales into prison following completion of his prison sentence. He was issued a final order of removal in 2023. This is yet ANOTHER example of an activist judge trying to thwart @POTUS Trump’s mandate from the American People to REMOVE criminal illegal aliens from our nation.

Almost five months ago, Donald Trump bypassed Congress to launch his illegal, reckless, and poorly thought-out war with Iran. What’s more, it's clear that the President does not have any real plan to get us out of this war any time soon – instead, he has veered wildly between strategies, touting potential peace deals one day and issuing unhinged threats the next. Granite Staters do not want our nation to be indefinitely entangled in Trump’s war with Iran. That’s why today I voted against beginning debate on a National Defense Authorization Act that would have done nothing to curb President Trump’s ability to wage this illegal war. On Monday, ICE agents were involved in yet another deadly shooting, this time in Maine. There must be a full and transparent investigation into what happened, why it happened and what can be done to prevent more deaths.

Another American community turned into a combat zone. ICE agents shot and killed a person in the streets of Biddeford, Maine. They are acting like Trump's racist secret police force because they know they have zero accountability. It is long past time to abolish ICE, strip them of this unchecked power, and prosecute every single agent involved to the fullest extent of the law. Biddeford deserves answers, and the American people demand justice.
