The company acknowledged the feedback but said it hasn’t seen any negative impact on sales since announcing the change and still believes the industry is moving toward a digital future. Sony also said the decision to announce the change so early was to give retailers time to prepare. According to the company, data shows that most PlayStation players already buy games digitally, and it doesn’t see physical discs as a key factor in why people choose consoles over PC.
