@JosephKahn It’s funny how movie opinions evolve with time. A performance once criticized as “too much” eventually becomes so iconic that people can’t imagine anyone else in the role. Brad Pitt’s Achilles basically became the modern pop-culture version of the character.

I might not be watching a representative sample, but something I like about quite a few Japanese high school movies I’ve seen is that they touch on young crushes but don’t feel the need to center that aspect of adolescence or have a forced romantic ending.

I often think about the fact that Denis Villeneuve regards Dune as an allegory about French Canadian anti-colonial struggles. On the one hand, that's insane. On the other hand, it kind of makes sense.
