I think the tipping point has been reached and this place is longer for me, so I’m going to slowly withdraw. Find me on Bluesky or Mastodon.

Some heat pumps don't just heat your home, they can cool it too. We're trialling an AC add-on to our Cosy heap pump: the Cosy Cooler. This is in earliest prototype stages, and won't be ready this summer, but soon enough we'll need some guinea pigs 👀 For Cosy Heat Pump customers only. Signup link in the comments 👇❄️
Greg Jackson@g__j

Sneak peak... So our incredible R&D team in Portadown have been beavering away and we'd love around 10 guinea pig customers to trial Cosy Cooler (slightly paradoxical code name but it alliterates nicely!) Essentially, a cooling add on for the Cosy Heat Pump. Probably the most requested feature we've had, for obvious reasons... We'll miss this Summer but hope to be properly available next Summer.

@FFmpeg Should file that one under "not every open source project is a business" even if the project is business critical to your company

Not everything revolves around business and "value". Our mission is to play every multimedia file in the world. We are proud to accept hobby contributors for obscure 1990s codecs. If trillion dollar corporations want things from volunteers, they have to pay for it.
Soumith Chintala@soumithchintala

I love how @FFmpeg is conducting themselves online. It's a project that's created billions of dollars in actual value and has captured practically none of it. Their stance seems to be simple: fund substantial development or STFU with the requests. Pretty easy to understand. If FFmpeg had a good leader that balanced itself, captured some of the created value as funding, and scaled the project to its deserved resources, it'd be a different situation; but that's not the case and there's no reason to expect more out of unpaid volunteers.

@MolloyLaurence I’m still here but slowly extracting myself, the friendly community is largely gone so it’s a news and info service for me now. I’ve had enough of the blue tick brigade.

@recantha I think they are trying to build a branded ecosystem of products presumably with guaranteed compatibility and quality. Also no doubt to improve revenue as they have investors to answer to.

I can't say I was absolutely begging for (checks notes) a 7" 720p screen with mahoosive bezels and a (blinks, confused) USB hub from our favourite fruit-based computer company, but here we are.

@foxy_michael @tfwrail It's seems to be vastly more complex in pricing and zoning than the Metrolink system in Manchester. I'm not convinced it will be easy for anyone to understand.

@LlanharanNeil @tfwrail @huw4ogmore It’s truly terrible for the people of Llanharan, it gets the worst mainline service on the entire TfW network and the fare increased by £25 for a return earlier this year.

@recantha Ethically implemented and used it can be positive and low impact e.g. edge AI tasks like object recognition in cameras. For me I’m increasingly concerned we are training generative AI without remuneration or permission for the source material which is unethical.

@biglesp You are doing great, you know your topics and write about interesting subjects. I think even the best people go through this. Just remember there are always people interested to read what you write.

@tfwrail Seems to affect the Mk4s (so basically all TfW services) as well as I'm on the 8.49 to Manchester today and WiFi does not work. I think you have a universal outage.

@tfwrail is there a problem with train WiFi at the moment? The WiFi on the Cardiff to Manchester route (class 197 services) hasn't been working for a few weeks now

@tfwrail I had problems last week with the Tuesday CDF (7.50) -> MAN (11.15) and on Thursday with the MAN (15.30) -> CDF (18.58). I thnk a colleague was on the 7.50 CDF -> MAN today with a similar issue. Seems to be a recurring problem so I don't think it's a specific train issue.
