@kalezelden I sense a bigger discussion looming (I tried to get Grok to put me in the meme but the results were disturbing)

I've been thinking about the "Butlerian Jihad," and I do not think that describes me. But then I asked myself: what if it were called a Butlerian Crusade? Still doesn't fit. But I get the impulse.

I once managed at an estate sale to get my hands on an entire library of Lewis Mumford. Most of them were out of print at the time. Only about half are now available on Amazon. The man was a unique polymath and a genius observer of social development, technology and the way in which modernity is merely the latest flowering of truly ancient modes of human collectivity. An innovative thinker. Out of print merely means they have little current audience. When they are needed will they be available?

@moveincircles And by rare it would be better to say used and out of print. Not rare in the museum sense.

Sir! I will not stand for this disrespect of the good Empress of Blandings! May her oinks never cease. Certainly, I cannot stand for it in these loafers with a glass of what was formerly a very happy whisky bathed in a loving soda bath, now drier than sands of Libya, like my tongue.

Did you know Anthropic embarked on what they called Project Panama in which they purchased large quantities of rare books, cut off the spines, scanned them, then confetti’ed them? Physical and metaphorical villainy.

I’ve told some of you that the first argument I had with Mr. Man was about whether or not postmodernism contain some truths. I’m organizing our file drawer today and I found the article which sparked the debate and led to our joining the Boar’s Head Tavern.

from Book 1, Stave V Over the head of every knight they saw a tongue of flame alight, and as they gazed around in awe it seemed that each the other saw more fair and comely than before, as though in Heaven’s light. #GalahadandtheGrail

- If City is stripped from their titles because of their charges, wpuld that change your view on Pep? - If you include net funds spent between Pep and SAF, would that change your view of Pep? - With Pep poor track record of man management, would it change your view?
Jamie Carragher@Carra23

No one ever forgets that, that wouldn’t be possible today even for SAF! Dundee Utd got to uefa cup final & European cup semifinal, Forest won two European cups & Gothenburg & Steaua Bucharest won European trophies. It happened alotmorethen that it does now. Still a remarkable feat!

@kalezelden @RealJoeWeil In my mind's eye can still see the olive drab Selectric on which my Mom typed my Dad's PhD thesis for Cornell. Paper, carbon paper, onion skin paper. I can even smell his pipe!

“I do not think that all who choose wrong roads perish; but their rescue consists in being put back on the right road. A sum can be put right: but only by going back till you find the error and working it afresh from that point, never by simply going on. Evil can be undone, but it cannot ‘develop’ into good. Time does not heal it. **The spell must be unwound, bit by bit, ‘with backward mutters of dissevering power’—or else not.** It is still ‘either-or’. If we insist on keeping Hell (or even Earth) we shall not see Heaven: if we accept Heaven we shall not be able to retain even the smallest and most intimate souvenirs of Hell. I believe, to be sure, that any man who reaches Heaven will find that what he abandoned (even in plucking out his right eye) has not been lost: that the kernel of what he was really seeking even in his most depraved wishes will be there, beyond expectation, waiting for him in ‘the High Countries’. In that sense it will be true for those who have completed the journey (and for no others) to say that good is everything and Heaven everywhere. But we, at this end of the road, must not try to anticipate that retrospective vision. If we do, we are likely to embrace the false and disastrous converse and fancy that everything is good and everywhere is Heaven.” C. S. Lewis’s preface to The Great Divorce

In a way, it's kind of a take on "Brave New World" and AI, where you are sucked into The Singularity, not by overt force, but rather through literal seduction and subversion. Oh, and thanks again for a wonderful Symbolic World Summit! Everyone is enjoying the Symbolic World coloring books I bought as gifts. You need to get Heather to do a coloring book or two...

An Exploration of Modern Dysfunction: What Pluribus is Actually About (link below) In this video, I look at the symbolism of the recent TV show, Pluribus. There's a lot of speculation about whether it's an allegory for AI, the internet, totalitarianism, or resisting tyranny. But I would argue that it's not allegorical at all, rather it's an exploration of a deeper ontological problem: the relationship of the one and the many, the inside and the outside, sameness and difference.
