Legal methods to hunt alligators in Florida include using artificial lures, baited wooden pegs, snare poles, harpoons, gigs, and spears, all of which must be attached to a restraining line. Bows, crossbows, and pre-charged pneumatic airbows (with tethered arrows) are also permitted. The only legal firearm is a bang stick, used only on a restrained alligator.

The FWC is aware of a video depicting individuals in the Everglades on an airboat who appear to be discharging firearms at an alligator.
