Celebrate my amazing @eBay find with me! I now own the 1856 issue of @sciam that reports on the condensed gas experiments of Mrs. Eunice Foote. What are those? Just the earliest experiments that show CO2 traps heat. #NBD So cool to own this piece of #climate science history!

Many thanks to my excellent co-author Caleb Woodall (who's not on Twitter) as well as @CarbonWrangler who encouraged and supported this project.

@matthewcgray Also, the "duration spread" (i.e. cost differentials) across that 12/24-hour curve, the 4-hour curve you've already calculated, and the coal/fossil curve would be fascinating to see.

@matthewcgray Thanks! 4 hours seems like a reasonable choice for a first pass analysis. However, I'd be quite interested to see the cost curve using a longer duration for renewables storage, perhaps 12 or even 24 hours.

@mtyka @bach_lennart Has there been any further attention on this idea? I can't find any follow up research or citations.

Congratulations to Alain Aspect for winning the #NobelPrize! Thanks for being good humored at ICOLS 2005 in Scotland when I also showed up wearing a kilt 😀 #Physics

With the need for up to 1,000 Gt of #carbonremoval by 2100, we are working with @Microsoft to scale the deployment of all viable CDR methods. Read our 2022 update to the Criteria for High-Quality Carbon Dioxide Removal here ⬇️ bit.ly/3MnqNCl

@DustinMulvaney @JesseJenkins What about ammonia? It’s well developed for industrial HPs, and production could presumably scale faster. Also has zero GWP. It’s been studied for residential use for years although obviously has drawbacks.

@JesseJenkins Gotta learn who can scale up refrigerant manufacturing, especially R-410A, R-32, and R-454B.. maybe someday CO2. &, without fugitive leaks, or batch losses. Honeywell makes most of 410A, licenses more. So you need a bunch of suppliers to show up to augment refrigerant supply.

Ok folks: who has the best market report or info on the global heat pump supply chain? And how much production capacity could increase in a year?

@carbonplanorg So happy to see this! Too many supposedly public datasets are actually very hard to use, particularly when different entries have to be laboriously matched across datasets. Kudos to @carbonplanorg for making these data much more accessible!

California’s cap-and-trade program allows polluters to use carbon offsets. Although public data connects companies, facilities, and offset credit use, that information is hard to parse. Today we’re releasing a tool that makes it easier. (1/4) carbonplan.org/research/compl…

Direct Air Capture (DAC) may be an important technology for addressing the #ClimateCrisis, but only if we can figure out who will pay for it, and how. Here's a look at the possible revenue streams for companies that build and operate DAC plants. #carbon nae.edu/266376/Who-Pay…
