@papgleeson If you’re certain of the security of the archaeological context, some possibilities include preservatives or consolidants not properly removed, humic acids not properly removed, other general errors in chemistry or on the AMS. For me textiles usually result in soxhlet coming out.

Any body have ideas on anything that could make a c14 date from a textile artificially early by a century or two and why?

@KaiDaigoji @butserfarm @merovingians @herigeas_hundas I saw this on my phone and the tuning sounds like a flavour of the major scale. Just curious why not tune to Dorian or another Gregorian mode which would fit the time. Maybe my ears were wrong, I’ll need to listen again when at home.

@christinexdude 1994 car had AM/FM only so boom box running D batts on passenger floor for tapes. 2 years later had cassette and used a discman (Sony) and cassette adapter. In home, hi-fi - tuner and amps (NAD), cassette (Nakamichi), cd (Sony and Rotel), speakers (Paradigm and Boston Acoustic).

@JoanaValdez They are getting savvier. Used to be easy to spot when addressed to Dr. W. Derek but lately some are simply Dear Dr. Hamilton and they initially sound like they’ve read something of mine…then I see it’s a Veterinary journal? Aha!! Isotopes on Iron Age animals. Dots connected!!

@JoanaValdez I include title and conference for all papers, posters, and organised sessions in my ‘master’ CV and then often highlight some relevant ones and summarise the remaining activity. Or simply summarise. Depends on space allotted.

@urbanprehisto @SueGreaney Technically we still use them as internal sample tracking. GU was conventional C14. In ‘98 we started AMS measurement via Arizona (AA) and SUERC AMS in ‘03. There are a mixture of all 3 in ‘03. There are the odd conventional date after ‘03. Env and not Arch usually.

@BenjaminGearey @CathyMoore_Arch Why it is soooo incredibly important that everyone using c14 dates from publications do everything they can to chase them down to a certificate or laboratory date list. I prefer certificates if I can find them. Unfortunately not a help when we make the mistake in our own pubs 🤦
