In Celtic mythology, specifically within The Coming of Lugh, Manannán mac Lir gifts his foster son Lugh the Sword of Light (Fragarach) after twenty-one years of training in Tír na nÓg. This magical weapon, alongside other gifts like a helmet and breastplate, enables Lugh to lead the Tuatha Dé Danann to victory against the Fomorians.  “Mananaan giving the Sword to Lugh” by Irish artist and revolutionary Maud Gonne (1866–1953) originally published in 1909 to accompany the book The Coming of Lugh: A Celtic Wonder-Tale Retold by Ella Young.

This is why libraries and bookstores will always be one of the best places in the world. Picked up a book I did not know existed, which I did not know I wanted, but which I find absolutely fascinating (an anthropological history of how various cultures have interacted with the “undead”: it strongly appeals to my love of the gothic aesthetic and literature…).
