A reminder that getting back to “normal” could have meant smaller class sizes, better indoor air quality, all-ages vaccination drives, free access to tests and high-quality PPE. Instead, we’ve had years now of unending sickness, with our smallest neighbours paying the price 💔

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Rather than finally lowering screening age (as advocated for by physicians and the Canadian Cancer Society) @fordnation and @SylviaJonesMPP are instead laser-focused on increasing access to alcohol, a known risk factor for this cancer.

FLOOD THE ZONE: Critics in Ontario say a flurry of government announcements on justice, alcohol and roads is designed to distract from sweeping changes the Ford government is planning to apply to FOI laws. globalnews.ca/news/11735233/… #onpoli

@1goodtern Sunk-cost fallacy? Deliberate “confusion” to garner engagement? At this point there is really no need for this type of questioning if you’ve been paying even the slightest attention to science.

@emmma_camp_ These kids were born *during* the ongoing airborne pandemic. Covid infections impact the brain, in particular parts of the brain responsible for organization, self-regulation, and behavioural control. The sooner we stop acting surprised the sooner we can act. #CleanAirForAll

@StiffNips2 @1goodtern @emmma_camp_ Most people use rapid tests, which are not always as sensitive to infection as PCR. Experts recommend testing multiple times over a few days, while swabbing inside the mouth (back of throat, cheeks, tongue, inside bottom teeth) and the nostrils, which most people don’t know/do.

@1goodtern @emmma_camp_ One thing I often wonder is if anyone could have caught covid yet not have tested positive at any time? Were all test kits adequate?

Premier @fordnation is back to his pre-pandemic approval rating. Are his devastating cuts to healthcare and education, inaction in the face of massive job losses, stagnating housing starts, and billions wasted on vanity projects starting to catch up to him? #onpoli

NEW: Premier Doug Ford’s approval rating has dropped to 31%, according to Angus Reid’s latest rankings. That’s a 17 point drop from one year ago. #onpoli

@MCirielloMPP Why are teachers paying out of pocket for supplies? Could it be because the government you’re part of has systematically underfunded Ontario public schools by billions of dollars over the past 7 years? Seems odd that you failed to mention that crucial part! #FordsCruelCuts #onted

Teachers already go above and beyond for their students — they shouldn’t have to pay for classroom supplies too! That’s why starting this September, Ontario’s new Classroom Supplies Fund will provide $750 every year to teachers to buy materials students need to learn and succeed. 📚🍎

Interesting communications strategy to have so many Conservative MPPs admit publicly that, under @fordnation, "teachers have to pay out of pocket for classroom supplies." This $66M represents less than 1% of the $6B+ taken out of publicly-funded Ontario schools since 2018 #onted

We continue to invest in educators, including the new $750 support for every Ontario teacher beginning September 2026. Our goal is simple: strong school boards, supported teachers, and better outcomes for students.

I just called @fordnation at 416-325-1941 to ask these questions- if @PaulCalandra is announcing this new purchasing card plan with so much fanfare, surely he's thought out these basic logistics?

@jillpromoli @TinaYazdani Exactly! If the @tdsb is still under supervision by Mr. Rohit Gupta in October, does that mean trustees cannot run in the upcoming municipal election?

@TinaYazdani Hey Tina! Missing from this conversation is any clarity about how boards can be returned to their own governance, and that doesn't make sense. How can trustees be returned to power when they've been entirely removed? There is no logic to the Minister's handling of this.

The education minister suggests school boards could remain under supervision for years: “until they are on the right path. If it takes us 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, 10 years, I don’t care.” He adds no decision yet on if trustees will be on ballots in upcoming municipal elections

@fordnation Imagine taking the time to make a little card to hand out but a) underfunding public schools to such a degree that teachers are buying supplies out of pocket, b) not asking educators what they need before announcing this program, c) not having a purchasing portal ready to go.

Starting this September, we’re sending elementary homeroom teachers across Ontario a $750 annual Classroom Supplies Card to help buy supplementary classroom supplies they need to help students succeed. We’ve sent a new survey to teachers across the province to hear from them about which supplies they would like to see available through this new fund. Find out more about how we’re investing in students: news.ontario.ca/en/release/100…

The @fordnation government first floated the idea of purchasing cards in November. 4 months later, they are giving teachers 2 weeks (1 week of which is March Break) to fill out a survey about classroom supplies. Why the rush? #onted #CutsHurtKids #FordsCruelCuts #onpoli

@krushowy @TorontoStar Can you imagine the backend support Ford has to put in place to make this happen? The ordering website won't even be available until "late summer"- will supplies be in classrooms by the time school starts? Why didn't @PaulCalandra consult Ontario teachers before announcing this?

"Teachers shouldn't have to pay out of pocket for classroom supplies". Nice to see the @fordnation government admitting they have underfunded public schools to such a drastic degree that teachers have to spend their own money to buy basic school supplies. #FordsCruelCuts #onted

Educators haven't even be asked what they think about the new plan yet, the new website isn't available yet, and it won't be rolled out until "late summer". So why an announcement now? What could @fordnation be trying to distract from (hint, his cruel cuts to public education).
