Mayor Chow has been twiddling her thumbs while TTC riders face open drug use and violence on their trips. Last week, we called for a zero tolerance policy for drugs on transit, and we are glad to see the province step in to ensure that it is safe for everyone.
Doug Ford@fordnation

Ontario transit riders have had enough of dangerous, illegal and open drug use on our subways, buses and streetcars. We’re bringing in tough new rules to crack down on people using drugs on public transit so we can keep our communities safe.

The RapidTO lanes exemplify the zero-sum mindset that has infected urban policymakers in North America. This example is especially egregious because there's so much obvious low-hanging fruit that would get everyone---cars, buses, streetcars & bikes---moving faster and more safely. Here are some easy, quick, and cheap steps that would reduce congestion for everyone: 1. Eliminate ~30% of streetcar & bus stops. No less than 500m between stops. Why the hell do we need stops at Bathurst & Harbord AND Bathurst & Ulster? It's crazy. 2. Eliminate left turns from all arterials (not just select ones) between 7am-7pm. College, Bathurst, Dundas, Queen---all of them. 3. Dedicated right-turn signals for cars (pedestrians can't cross) at all intersections on arterial streets. 4. Longer left turn signals. It's ridiculous that only 3-4 cars get through on major intersections. There are often 10+ cars waiting to turn left from Spadina onto Queen. 5. Eliminate push-to-illuminate-crosswalk buttons on arterial streets. Relegate them to minor streets only. Pedestrians can cross at traffic lights on major streets. 6. Streetcars don't open doors on green lights. They let traffic move and wait until lights turn red to let passengers on & off. Longer term, I'd make more arterial streets one-way like Adelaide and Richmond. Ideally, only University, Spadina, Jarvis, and Lakeshore should have two-way traffic. This is more expensive, of course. But it would do wonders.

Toronto drivers seem to have had enough of the constant single-file idling on Bathurst and are now driving as they please. Do you agree with this act of civil rebellion? 🤔

ABC Toronto is demanding a Zero Tolerance Policy for Drug Use on the TTC. There are too many reports of open drug use on the TTC, which is unacceptable and deters ridership, particularly among families and vulnerable populations. City Hall must: 👉🏻 Increase enforcement presence across stations and vehicles. 👉🏻 Immediately remove individuals using drugs on transit property. 👉🏻 Ensure integration with mental health and addiction support services. 👉🏻 Create clear and visible standards for safety and conduct. Compassion and enforcement are not mutually exclusive, but inaction is not an option.

Are you sick and tired of construction projects that leave your neighbourhood worse off than before they started? Torontonians deserve a “Leave it Better” standard so that broken sidewalks, uneven pavement, and degraded roads caused by contractors is no longer the norm. ABC Toronto is calling on City Hall to implement: - Mandatory pre- and post-construction condition audits. - Financial holdbacks until full restoration standards are met. - A minimum 2-year warranty on all restoration work. - Significant penalties and blacklisting for repeat offenders. If you build in Toronto, you fix it properly.

someone has come and spent their own time and money to do something fun and special and that brings people together in an increasingly depressing and divided world. and the city is shutting it down. this is just so emblematic of the thinking of our leaders –appease the vocal minority, bring in the rules, stamp out any sense of fun or innovation.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow is publicly supporting a decision by the city’s fire chief to dismantle Drake’s viral “Iceman” sculpture downtown, after it drew thousands of fans and raised concerns about “dangerous and unsafe activities.” cp24.com/local/toronto/…

City Hall must fix Toronto’s pothole crisis now. ABC Toronto is calling for tripling the pothole repair budget today. Residents deserve safe, smooth roads, not a patchwork system that fails every Spring. The City can do this by implementing: -Rapid-response teams within 24 hours of reporting. -Preventative resurfacing programs in high-risk corridors -Public reporting dashboards tracking response times and repair volumes. City Hall must fix the roads, and must do it properly.

Transit needs to be fast and reliable. I’m moving a motion, seconded by Chair Jamaal Myers, at this week’s TTC meeting requesting an action plan to prevent subway delays due to mechanical and infrastructure failures, including hydraulic fluid leaks and signal issues.

Just 24 hours after Mayor Chow’s response to our safety ad was “major crime is down,” the Toronto Star published a piece by a mother whose five children were traumatized when their home was violently invaded. Another home down the street was invaded moments later. Home invasions have increased by 86% since Chow became Mayor. Toronto has a choice come October: More of the same. Or new leadership that takes their safety seriously. thestar.com/opinion/contri…

Mayor Chow and City Hall can't clear your sidewalk after a snowstorm and now they want to run your grocery store? Toronto deserves better priorities. How about fixing the basics before chasing headlines? torontosun.com/news/local-new…

Even the Toronto Star acknowledges: “her lower-than-expected 2026 property tax increase was widely viewed an election-year budget...” A slightly less gouging property tax hike on top of record level gouging tax increases isn't something to be proud of. Torontonians deserve better than a failed mayor. This is why Toronto needs a change in leadership at City Hall. Sign our petition for change: abctoronto.org/petitions/its-…
