"This is PRECISELY the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write... That is how civilizations heal." In these wordless hours, a lifeline from Toni Morrison worded 20 years ago: themarginalian.org/2016/11/15/ton…

Dark clouds have gathered over the US but with all our love and strength the rains will renew and not devastate. But it will take all of us not giving up because giving up rewards injustice.

Many Indigenous children who died and were buried at Indian residential schools are not missing but disappeared, says Kimberly Murray. That means they are “victims of enforced disappearance,” a crime against humanity, Murray says in her final report. cbc.ca/news/indigenou…

Nearly a century ago, the brave Famous Five took a stand on a simple truth: women are persons. It wasn’t easy. They faced backlash, threats, and a legal system that didn’t want to change. But their victory changed the course of Canadian history — and paved the way for the incredible women leaders we have today.

Congratulations to Nihon Hidankyo, a group of survivors of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. At a time when the threat of nuclear weapons is growing – and the taboo against threatening their use is weakening – Nihon Hidankyo’s work reminds us that these weapons have a terrible human cost, and that the pursuit of a world without nuclear weapons is an essential part of making sure we leave our children a safer, more secure world. Nihon Hidankyo built a powerful movement out of personal tragedy and insists upon our common humanity.
The Nobel Prize@NobelPrize

BREAKING NEWS The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2024 #NobelPeacePrize to the Japanese organisation Nihon Hidankyo. This grassroots movement of atomic bomb survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, also known as Hibakusha, is receiving the peace prize for its efforts to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and for demonstrating through witness testimony that nuclear weapons must never be used again. #NobelPrize
