Taft checks in and the clerk mentions Roosevelt is eating dinner there. The two hadn't spoken in six years.
They ran against each other in 1912, splitting the Republican Party and handing the White House to Woodrow Wilson. The friendship was dead.
Taft walked into the dining room anyway.
Roosevelt's friends saw him coming and went silent. He turned around. Taft was smiling.
Roosevelt jumped up and bear-hugged the man he had once called a "Fathead" with "Brains of a guinea pig".
The dining room stood up and applauded. Strangers who had read about the feud for years watched it end in real time.
Eight months later, Roosevelt died.
At the funeral, Taft stood alone and wept.
He later told Roosevelt's sister: "Had he died in a hostile state of mind toward me, I would have mourned the fact all my life. I loved him always and cherish his memory."

I have refrained from talking about Henry Nowak so far because I was too angry. I remain too angry.
I'm angry at the scumbag who stabbed an 18-year-old boy to death. Who drove a blade into the back of his legs to stop him from running, then finished him by skewering him through the chest with an 8-inch blade. All while that poor boy tried desperately to escape.
I'm angry that the same scumbag then cried "racism" to cover his tracks, claiming self-defence after pursuing and butchering an innocent boy who just wanted to get home.
I'm angry at the parents who tried to hide the murder weapon and shield their killer son from justice, putting blood loyalty above any sense of right and wrong.
I'm angry at the police who handcuffed a bleeding teenager while he cried "I'm dying" and "I can't breathe," and let him bleed out in the street. All because his attacker cried racism.
I'm angry at the judge who has introduced manslaughter as an alternative verdict before the jury even had a chance to decide. Robbing Henry's family of the proper verdict on what was clearly cold-blooded murder.
I'm angry at a nation that grants religious exemptions so minorities can carry deadly blades in public while locking up natives for far less. A nation that has opened the floodgates to migrants who want us dead and now watches its own young bleed out in the name of "diversity."
I'm angry that we've allowed it to happen.
I'm angry.

When I made this post, I truly believed it was a long shot. Living in Arkansas, we’re not always able to make the trip to Arlington National Cemetery every Memorial Day, and there’s always a little guilt that comes with that.
But seeing complete strangers offer to visit Alan, leave flowers, take photos, and say his name when we can’t be there ourselves has honestly overwhelmed me in the best way possible.
This comment section restored a little piece of my faith in humanity today. I’ve always been proud to be an American, but tonight I’m even prouder knowing there are still so many people who refuse to let our fallen be forgotten. 🇺🇸

While Romanian families shivered in unheated apartments and waited hours for meager bread rations, Nicolae Ceaușescu built himself a 1,100-room palace that consumed $3 billion of his nation's wealth. The Casa Poporului stands today as a monument to the inevitable outcome when central planners face zero market constraints on their appetites.
Ceaușescu's palace contains 12 stories above ground, spreads across 365,000 square meters, and required 20,000 workers laboring in shifts around the clock. He demolished entire historic neighborhoods of Bucharest to clear space for his architectural ego trip. Meanwhile, his citizens endured bread queues, rolling blackouts, and heating restrictions so severe that hospitals couldn't maintain proper temperatures. The dictator diverted the nation's resources toward marble, crystal chandeliers, and gold leaf while his people literally froze.
Without market prices to signal genuine demand or profit-and-loss mechanisms to punish waste, political authorities inevitably channel resources toward projects that serve their personal preferences rather than human needs. Ceaușescu faced no competitors, no angry shareholders, no bankruptcy risk. He simply commanded the nation's productive capacity to serve his grandiose vision.
The palace required 3,500 tons of crystal, 480 chandeliers, 1,409 ceiling lights, and 700,000 tons of steel and bronze. Every ton of material that went into those ornate rooms represented food, medicine, fuel, or housing that never reached Romanian families. The arithmetic is brutal but simple: centralized control means resources flow toward political vanity projects rather than genuine human priorities.
The building still stands, largely empty, costing millions annually just to maintain its unused splendor.

The deadliest famines in recorded history share one common trait: government control over food production and distribution. Stalin's Holodomor killed 3.5 million Ukrainians in 1932-33. Mao's Great Leap Forward starved 15-45 million Chinese between 1958-1962. Pol Pot's agricultural collectives murdered 2 million Cambodians through starvation from 1975-1979.
Each disaster followed the same script. Central planners seized private farms, eliminated price signals, and replaced voluntary exchange with bureaucratic allocation. They destroyed the knowledge embedded in market prices that coordinates millions of individual decisions about planting, harvesting, storing, and distributing food. Without profit and loss guiding resources to their most valued uses, crops rotted in fields while people starved in cities.
Compare this record to countries with functioning food markets. Even during severe droughts, floods, or other natural disasters, market economies avoid mass starvation. Prices rise to signal scarcity, encouraging conservation and attracting supply from other regions. Entrepreneurs profit by moving food from areas of abundance to areas of need. Speculation smooths consumption over time by rewarding those who store food during abundance and release it during scarcity.
Free market economists have explained this pattern for centuries. Policy makers continue treating markets as the problem rather than the solution. They impose price controls during shortages (creating more shortages), restrict food exports during domestic abundance (reducing incentives to produce surpluses), and subsidize inefficient agricultural practices (misallocating resources away from actual food production).
The next time someone claims markets fail to feed people, remind them that every major famine occurred when governments replaced market allocation with political allocation.

EXCLUSIVE Colorado Teacher REFUSED to allow a 7th grader to present her pro-life slam poetry submission because it’s “offensive” and might make kids feel “unsafe.” Some examples of accepted topics in the class are slamming the 2nd amendment, mocking Jesus, and lgbtq rights. Staff admitted that the poem met all the requirements however couldn’t be read out loud because it’s “politically charged.” The teacher also initially tried kicking this 13-year-old girl out of class during the poem presentations but allowed her to stay after pushback. We spoke with the mother and daughter who shared their story and with us and why being pro-life is so personal to them. This happened at Drake Middle School in @JeffcoSchoolsCo.

The Soviet whaling fleet killed 180,000 whales between 1948 and 1973, delivering rotten carcasses that nobody wanted to eat. Soviet citizens had zero demand for whale meat. The ships hunted anyway, fulfilling quotas handed down from central planners who counted tons of dead whale as economic output.
This was bureaucratic box-checking that nearly drove multiple whale species to extinction. Soviet whalers targeted endangered right whales and humpbacks specifically because they were larger, helping them hit tonnage targets faster. The meat rotted on deck during long voyages back to port, where officials dutifully recorded the numbers and sent reports to Moscow declaring another successful harvest.
Central planners measured success in tons harvested, not consumer satisfaction or long-term sustainability. Factory managers got promoted for exceeding whale quotas, regardless of whether anyone actually wanted whale meat (they didn't). The feedback mechanism that normally connects production to human needs had been severed entirely. When bureaucrats replace market prices with administrative targets, you get mass slaughter with zero purpose.
You still see this today every time politicians promise to "create jobs" in industries that lose money year after year. When government agencies measure their success by dollars spent rather than problems solved. When university administrators chase enrollment numbers instead of student outcomes.
Remove the profit motive and price signals, and you get 180,000 dead whales rotting in the sun while commissars celebrate meeting their targets. You don't get rational planning.
Socialism is fundamentally destructive to the environment and inevitably leads to ecological disasters.
