I recently had dinner with Dr Devi Shetty, the founder of Narayana Hospitals. For those who don't know him, he's the guy who figured out how to do open heart surgery for a few hundred dollars when the same procedure costs a bomb in the US. Narayana has 18,000 beds across India, and if you ask most middle-class people in Bangalore about it, they'll speak highly of it. There was one thing I kept thinking about over and over again after meeting him. Narayana's market cap is around ₹38,000 crore. Now compare that to pretty much any half-decent financial services business in India, and it'll be valued more than that, including Zerodha. A brokerage, worth more than a hospital chain, that has probably saved hundreds of thousands of lives. I get the arguments. If you're a fund manager/analyst, you can immediately explain it away using margins, capex, asset-light vs asset-heavy, and all that, and I'm not saying the market is wrong. But it's still a strange world we've built, where the businesses closest to money get valued the highest, and the ones doing the hard and essential things get priced like boring utilities. A hospital carries physical infrastructure, enormous liability, thin margins and the actual weight of keeping people alive. And somehow that's worth less than a platform for buying and selling stocks. I don't have a clean take on this. All of this just felt odd. Ps: Nothing here is investment advice. For that, go to @zerodhavarsity

His name is Ashok Khemka. IIT Kharagpur. PhD from TIFR. IAS 1991 batch. In 2012 he was Director General of Land Consolidation in Haryana. He found a land deal where Robert Vadra’s company bought 3.5 acres in Gurugram for Rs 7.5 crore and sold it to DLF for Rs 58 crore within weeks. 700 percent profit. No physical development. Fraudulent mutation approvals. He cancelled the deal and declared it illegal. Within 10 days he was transferred. That was transfer number 1 of 57. 57 transfers in 34 years. One every 6 months. Every time he exposed corruption in a new department he was moved to a less significant one. Archives. Archaeology. Printing and Stationery. His batchmates became Secretaries to the Government of India. He was sent to manage old records. He posted on X after his 53rd transfer. The reward for honesty is humiliation. He retired in April 2025 as Additional Chief Secretary. He never became Chief Secretary. No medal. No recognition. Just 57 punishments for doing his job.

As a Clinical Immunologist & Rheumatologist, I treat patients with #Lupus (#SLE) where daily sunscreen (SPF ≥30) is not a cosmetic choice — it is an essential part of treatment to prevent disease flares due to photosensitivity. However, sunscreens are currently taxed at 18% GST, making long-term use unaffordable for many patients. On the occasion of #WorldLupusDay (10th May), we request PMO India to: • Highlight Lupus & autoimmune diseases in #MannKiBaat to improve public awareness • Initiate district-level awareness drives with state government support • Reclassify prescription sunscreens for photosensitive disorders • Reduce GST or subsidize costs to improve accessibility Because for these patients — sunscreen is medicine, not a luxury. Patient safety must come before taxation. #LupusAwareness #SLE #AutoimmuneDiseases #HealthPolicy #GST #Photosensitivity #Rheumatology #Immunology @MoHFW_INDIA @GST_Council @CDSCO_INDIA_INF @UPGovt @narendramodi @myogiadityanath @brajeshpathakup @PMOIndia @MannKiBaat_PMO @mannkibaat

Look closely at the photograph of the woman in the picture and you will clearly see a large diamond around her neck. This is the famous 245.35-carat Jubilee Diamond, which is almost double the size and weight of the renowned "Kohinoor" diamond. This woman was Meherbai Tata, daughter-in-law of Jamsetji Tata and wife of his elder son, Sir Dorabji Tata. In 1920, during the economic depression after the First World War, when the Tata company did not even have enough money to pay its employees' salaries, Meherbai mortgaged this priceless Jubilee Diamond with the Imperial Bank and secured one crore rupees. With that money, the employees' salaries were paid and the company was saved from crisis. However, some time later, Meherbai passed away from blood cancer. After her death, Sir Dorabji Tata sold this diamond and used the proceeds to lay the foundation of the Tata Memorial Cancer Research Foundation for better treatment of cancer patients in India. This diamond became not just a memory of love, but a gift to humanity that has saved countless lives. Now you decide.. Is the true monument of love the life-giving Tata Memorial Cancer Research Foundation...... or a tomb like the Taj Mahal!!!

Sometime ago, I had a talk with a banking guy and media personality who was part of the GLISCO network in London. But he got fed up with having to support Islamists and Communists (though he's still 100% Globalist attending WEF and hating Trump / Modi/ Milei / Maloni, while supporting China, as that's how he mints his millions). This guy told me something simple and interesting. He was asked to post on social media but limit replies by his "social media advisor" (later I found out this advisor was a Pakistani Brit). The reason he gave was - "if you limit replies, your message will reach millions yet there will be no direct replies to counter your post or dilute its content for your audience." That's when it hit me: 1) They use replies and comments to dilute and attack any truth we post. 2) They make sure we can't reply and counter when they are creating a narrative. Now go and find who's posting without allowing replies and comments on social media. You will know they are working with an agenda pushing their narrative. Mostly for the GLISCO-DS.

I’ll again let people know that many tests which you feel are unnecessary- are - Yes- unnecessary - but done due to medicolegal reality - not due to doctor wanting more money. I’m sorry - but bringing Healthcare under Consumer act has definitely inflated costs. You went with headache and got MRI Brain done. It’s cause of the 0.0001% chance it’s a stroke - you won’t think twice before suing the doc who didn’t get the MRI done. Congrats- now every headache gets a MRI. We used to manage childhood leukemia on daycare basis in AIIMS. Transfusions were given with a strict 20k platelet cutoff. (for FN) I would be sued into oblivion if I tried that in private and a child with leukemia with 24k platelet gets a bleed. All the borderline cases get more treatment - not less in private - this isn’t becuase doctor doesn’t know conservative management- it’s because you will sue the doctor for not being aggressive enough incase something goes wrong.

I’ll rephrase is so that people understand who is the real culprit. Healthcare care infrastructure in govt hospitals is highly inadequate and Government and Political Parties have looted all citizens of their hard earned tax and still not able to provide basic services. They have made your taxes a money making machine for themselves. They don’t care about you, your life - you’re just a number to fill their pockets. No transparency, just asking for money- vasooli but legal. Becuase of their inefficiency- Indians who cannot afford Private healthcare are going to private hospitals and - who are providing world class services at cost which allows them to function profitably since they are not charity. Instead of asking govt for accountability- we are blaming the wrong entity becuase we want Mercedes at the cost of Splendor. We are that entitled - but ofcourse - we won’t demand that entitlement from leaders.
Ankit Pandey@iamankitpande

Healthcare in India is becoming a money making machine. A friend’s grandmother is in ICU for the last 4 days. Daily medicine cost alone is around 40–50K. He is not allowed inside ICU. He cannot see the treatment. He cannot see which medicines are actually being used. He can only stand outside and keep paying. Medicines go from pharmacy to ICU. Families don’t know what is used, what is not. Maybe some goes back from the back door. But there is no transparency. Only bills. Private hospitals know families won’t argue when their loved one is in ICU. This is not just treatment. For many families, this is financial destruction in the name of healthcare.

The solution for this is the simplest! 1. Visit only the government health facility to avoid doctor charges! 2. Visit only Jan Aushadhalayas to buy medicines at very affordable rates! Above, both are government subsidised, and therefore cheap/affordable! Else don't crib here for the sake of EF!

Minister @DKShivakumar MLA’s are not our rulers. Govt runs for the citizens not MLA’s. Why are you favoring the MLA’s. When sports lovers have to pay for tickets why cannot these MLA’s? This is very very wrong. MLA’s are representatives in the House, not govt. only ministers are part of government and have executive power.

#WATCH | Bengaluru | On Karnataka Congress MLAs demanding VIP tickets for IPL matches, Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar says, "The MLAs have the right because they are part of the government. I will speak to the chairman to see that our MLAs are accommodated. Let Tejasvi Surya give gyaan to his party members..."

Had the Karnataka MLAs spent time in the Vidhana Soudha discussing safety and security preparedness for IPL fans, it would have upheld the dignity of the House. Instead, we saw MLAs pleading and even threatening for free tickets for themselves and their families. This is not just poor priority. It exposes a deeper problem - a VIP mindset that sees public office as entitlement. Why should any sports body owe MLAs anything? Why should elected representatives expect privileges denied to ordinary citizens? Public office is not a privilege. It is a responsibility. This culture must end. #IPLTicket #MLAIPLKarnataka

This picture says more than a thousand words. It captures, in one frame, what our political culture has been reduced to. A national icon like Venkatesh Prasad, a man who brought pride to India, whose spells against Pakistan are etched permanently in our collective memory, is today standing with folded hands before a Chief Minister. Why? Not for any wrongdoing. Not for any failure of duty. But simply because he did his job. Because he did not anticipate that the brittle egos of politicians would be bruised. Because he did not bend to a culture that expects free tickets, special treatment, and unquestioned entitlement. This is the tragedy. When those who have served the nation with excellence are made to stand in deference, and those in public office demand privilege over accountability, something has gone fundamentally wrong. This is not just about one incident. This is about a deeper decay. A political class that sees power as entitlement, not responsibility should go. A system where excellence bows, and arrogance sits should go. A new generation of political class is badly needed at all levels. If this does not disturb us, nothing will. India deserves better. For whatever it is worth, I stand with @venkateshprasad. And I know, millions will.
