Speaking of setting dangerous precedents, no responsible member of the United Nations should sponsor or vote in favour of this blatantly one-sided draft resolution. To do so would amount to rewarding the United States and Israel for a campaign of illegal aggression that has included the targeted assassination of Iranian officials, documented war crimes, repeated nuclear threats, an unlawful blockade, and open contempt for diplomacy. Far from advancing peace, such endorsement would hand Donald Trump a sweeping propaganda victory, allowing him to claim that the international community has retroactively legitimised an unlawful war, while emboldening him to escalate further with even greater recklessness. The co-sponsorship of this resolution by certain Arab states is particularly shameless. These are governments that have hosted U.S. military bases on their soil and materially facilitated the aggression itself. They possess neither the legal nor the moral standing to table a text that purports to defend principles which, under the United Nations Charter, include state sovereignty, the prohibition on the use of force, and the peaceful settlement of disputes. At a deeper level, endorsing this resolution would further entrench the ongoing replacement of international law with a politicised and selectively applied “rules-based order”, precisely the phenomenon that both Russia and China have consistently warned against. Under such circumstances, a veto is not merely justified, it is the only principled course remaining for any permanent member genuinely committed to defending the United Nations Charter.

An Israeli drone targeted a 12 year old girl THREE times today in Nabatieh. She and her father were on a motorcycle when they were first struck. They both survived, but the drone hit again, killing her father. As the wounded child fled, the drone struck a third time. The girl survived, but is seriously injured and is being treated in hospital.
