Yesterday during date night my husband said, “Oh, we’re going to a party tomorrow.” I asked whose party. He said his friend (let’s call him Tola)’s mum’s birthday. I froze. This same gay had borrowed huge amounts from my husband and his friends, ₦5m here, ₦3m there, then used the money to “japa to the UK.” Thats not even the ish.. the thing is When it was time to pay back, he stopped answering calls. after a while someone Eventually got his brother who told them Tola had a serious gambling problem and had piled up debts everywhere. Months later Tola resurfaced, said he had gone to rehab, and started paying people back. Some got their full money, others got just over half. My husband was one of the people who got a little over half. So imagine my shock when I heard he was in Nigeria celebrating his mum’s birthday and had invited the same friends he owed. I immediately said I wasn’t going. But my husband said they had moved past it and insisted I follow him. I still don’t understand how men forgive things like this so easily. But I sha followed him to the party and ate and drank and collected every souvenir collectable
