Password — hashed, ofc that's important Phone number — encrypted, that's cool Address — encrypted, that's fine Why would you encrypt users' email? Even if the DB was hacked, what threat does it posed to the users if their emails got exposed??

@BuiltByElly Encrypted - can be restored by decrypting (uses an algorithm) Hashed - can never be restored, you only compare the hashes

@codekagefx When you work with banks, they won’t even want usernames to show on the network. Everything needs to be hashed.

@codekagefx Emails are personally identifiable information if we expose them it can enable phishing, spam, account enumeration etc etc.

Been off this space for months. Came back last month and I've just been scrolling and liking a few posts. I think it's time to finally come out of my 'comfort blanket' and start tweeting. 🫠🫠

If a hacker gains access to a fintech's users' email addresses, it's easy to send phishing links branded as that fintech and steal from its users. The main thing is securing the database and all user data, not just encrypting email.

The African tech community will help a stranger debug code at midnight. Share a job opening before applying themselves. Vouch for someone they've only met on Twitter. I have never seen another tech community do this at scale. We don't have the best infrastructure. But we have each other. And that is worth more than most people realize.

Unpopular opinion: 90% of SaaS don't need React. They're mostly forms, tables, filters, dashboards, and CRUD. You're not building Canva. You're building an admin panel. React is brilliant when the problem demands it. That's literally why it was created. But using it for every CRUD app is like using a tractor to water your backyard. Use the simplest tool that gets the job done.
