I like Slot but tonight was a really bad night for him There’s loads more to it of course but two things you can spot a mile off as to whether a team is well coached: 1) Build up in deep possession 2) Shape & plan when opposition in deep possession Liverpool’s plan out of possession (see screenshot 1 ⬇️) was BERSERK It meant Sunderland could bring the ball out via a centre half at will, gain territory, trigger movements and go direct with time on the ball. Meaning we had to compete deep in our own half and any second balls were then deep in our own half Whilst we couldn’t get our head up in possession without Sunderland squeezing us at pace 1st half they had ages on the ball 1st half set up and execution by players a mess At half time he changes it but it should NOT take until half time! You could / should change this inside ten minutes See screenshot 2 ⬇️ where the wide men squeeze the centre backs & Isak drops on to Xhaka allowing Liverpool to win the ball higher up the pitch and faster OR they go direct with less time meaning we are more likely to win it and higher up pitch This is ONE component of course - there is a lot more to it in and out of possession but this alone highlights - Original plan bizarre - Not changing it until half time equally baffling There’s a million other things on and off the pitch of course but on purely Coaching and the set up tonight it was a really bad night for the manager
