Doha, Qatar – A Qatar Airways Boeing 787-8, Reg: A7-BCV, sustained significant damage when its right main landing gear fell into a drainage hole on the ramp at Hamad International Airport. The incident occurred on Friday October 25, resulting in the aircraft coming to rest on its right engine nacelle. The 9.5-year-old aircraft, powered by a GEnX engine, experienced a collapse of the ramp area, which caused the landing gear wheels to fall into the exposed drainage. Eyewitness accounts and initial inspections indicate that the incident not only affected the landing gear but also resulted in damage to the engine nacelle, including the inlet, fan cowls, and possibly the thrust reverser mechanism. An engineer involved in the assessment stated, “The A7-BCV did not fall into the drain; rather, it was the ramp area that collapsed, leading to the aircraft’s main landing gear wheels falling into it.” Airport authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the failure and assess the extent of the damage to the aircraft. Qatar Airways has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident or the timeline for the aircraft’s recovery and repair. Passengers and crew were reported safe, and alternative arrangements have been made for affected flights. As the investigation continues, the airport remains operational, but passengers are advised to monitor flight updates for any potential delays related to this incident.
