on one hand, this is true. on the other hand, if Pat Ngongba is back, that's a... very big mid-tourney addition that most survivors of close 1-16 games don't have. so I'm kinda inclined, assuming Pat returns, to throw out the history book.

Duke survives, but not exactly a great omen. The last national champion to win its opener by fewer than 15 points was UConn in 2014. And that 7 seed was the exception to basically every rule ever.

@kerrancejames yeah, I generally think the Foster minutes going to Cayden/Nik will be fine... but Pat's role, in particular his rim protection, is irreplaceable on this roster. feels like a massive massive change in rotation/role if he can play even 18 moderately effective minutes.

This is 100% true if Big Pat is anything close to 100% moving forward, and if Foster eventually makes it back. There's a pretty good reason Duke didn't look today like it had for most of the season.
