I’m deeply saddened to announce the passing of my father, Al Sharpton, Sr. Our relationship was complicated, but he was still my father. Over the past 18 years, I was able to work through my pain and feelings of abandonment, and we built a relationship that meant a lot to me. Born and raised in Jim Crow Florida, he later came to NYC and became a successful entrepreneur. Though his weaknesses may have cost him, he instilled in my sister and me (and later our other siblings) a mentality of independence and self-pride. I've learned from my own mistakes and from his. May my Daddy rest in peace.

I have worked for two Presidents, briefed two Presidents. We don’t want a President sitting in the Oval Office who wouldn’t demand exactly this. It’s literally your job to be prepared for it.
Leah Greenberg says NO KINGS ❌👑@Leahgreenb
this is an absolutely bananas complaint to have about the Vice President of the United States

@kangaroos991 Yeah. We’ll be debating endlessly over whether it’s a symbol of hate or cultural pride. I can definitely see that happening.

Album of the day. 1979's You Know How to Love Me turned out to be one of best-selling albums of Phyllis Hyman's career—a stellar James Mtume and Reggie Lucas production that was every bit in step with the sleek, breezy amalgam of quiet storm R&B, disco, and jazz they stamped during the late '70s and early '80s. Hyman's boundless voice gave this album's spirited nine selections the expressive, jazzy lilt and grace she was known for, showcasing her flair for silky smooth ballads and zesty dance jams.

@brandonousley One such moment is Electric Chair. My belief that it’s the best song on that album and an underrated gem is a hill I’m willing to die on.

Album of the day. 35 years later, and this remains one of the most polarizing albums in the Prince canon. Depending who you ask, Batman is either held up as a fan favorite or tossed aside as pedestrian altogether. I tend to fall somewhere in the middle—while it's not on par with the 1980-88 purple patch, there's several fun moments on this album. After all, it was a big cash cow that rode off the mega success of the film franchise. Conceptually, each song is interestingly based off a main character from the movie, blending Prince's usual electronic pop-funk tricks, multi-layered vocals, piano ballads, and steamy soul.

My mom Marian Robinson was my rock, always there for whatever I needed. She was the same steady backstop for our entire family, and we are heartbroken to share she passed away today. We wanted to offer some reflections on her remarkable life: barackobama.medium.com/statement-on-t…
