We’ve lost exceptional councillors today and I want to thank them for their service. As Keir has acknowledged, the results have been tough. The electorate have sent us a clear message. We need to reflect, rally and show that we can change to renew the country as we promised.

@mtpennycook I obviously didn't mean outright that I would actually vote for Labour when the canvassers knocked on my door last week. It's a complex undertaking deciding who to vote for that would have a detrimental impact on the electorate if, say, that party failed to deliver its promises.

We obviously do not mean outright abolition, which would be an incredibly disruptive, costly, and complex undertaking that would undoubtedly have a detrimental impact on enfranchised and RTM buildings.

I don’t want to be antagonistic within the party, but @mtpennycook your post today aims to state that you’ve abolished leasehold, while also stating that you aren’t abolishing leasehold. Ground rent (a feudal payment) will continue at a capped level (£250) for 40 years. That means that the manifesto pledge to “end the feudal leasehold system” has undeniably been broken. That is a simple, irrefutable fact. It doesn’t mean your dept has not outlined legislation that is a clear leap forward, better than anything for over 100 years, but it does mean the manifesto pledge was broken.

We are pushing ahead with the biggest overhaul of our planning system in a generation. Good to attend the Land, Planning And Development Federation’s Annual Conference earlier today to discuss our plans to boost local plan coverage and further streamline the planning process.

With all disagreements between the Commons and the Lords now resolved, our landmark Planning and Infrastructure Bill is on course to receive Royal Assent before the end of the year. Labour is getting Britain building again.
