THRILLER BARK: Arc Review 👻
Score: 7.5/10
Overall I thought this was a fun arc with funny moments, some good fight scenes and ended on a SUPER emotional high! It definitely had some weird moments tho and the pacing was a bit of an issue -- so let's review 👇
Pros:
- I loved this arc's aesthetic! A lot of times it felt like an old Scooby Doo movie or Nightmare Before Christmas. All the character designs and settings fit it very nicely 🎃
- This arc was also super funny & goofy at times like Luffy pushing the zombie back into the ground or Usopp/Nami/Chopper trio running around the haunted house - which I liked after the emotional rollercoaster of Enies Lobby before it
- This arc introduced us to Perona, who is now one of my favorites. She was so funny and I love her design. And of course Brook... what a legend with a heartbreaking backstory 🐳
- The laughs in this arc were peak 😭 YOHOHOHO, FOSS FOSS FOSS, HORO HORO HORO, SHEE SHEE SHEE
- Gecko Moria ended up being a pretty sick villain imo. At first his shadow thing was cool but I didn't care for him all that much, but he just kept getting stronger and stronger which made him interesting
- I really liked how this arc had all the Straw Hats fighting Oars together like a Raid Boss! I definitely want to see more of that in the show, as I think that's the first time it's been done? The Oars fight did feel a little long but overall an enjoyable watch for this reason
- Some of the other fights in here were good too; notably Sogeking vs Perona was my favorite. Zoro v Ryuma was also sick, and Luffy 2nd/3rd gear combo was wild!
- The ending with Kuma was definitely the craziest part of the whole arc, his powers are so interesting! Crazy he is a government cyborg, I think we'll learn more about his creator Dr Vegapunk soon 🤔
- Zoro is the GOAT. Too bad nothing happened to prove that really... just an inkling
- My favorite part and boosted my overall rating of the whole arc was the ending with Brook. Binks' Sake, the INSANELY SAD backstory, Brook's reaction to being around people again... man. Peak. Tied everything we learned about during this arc together nicely. Cried the most here 100%

Cons:
- The pacing in this arc was not the best. I didn't HATE it like Syrup Village, but there were times I did feel it start to drag. Either prolonged facial reaction moments, fights taking multiple episodes, etc. There was 1 episode where 95% of it was just old clips from Laboon in Reverse Mountain lol
- I didn't care much for some of the side characters in this arc
- This arc had some WEIRD moments... mainly everything Absalom. Might be the worst character in the show so far right behind Miss Merry Christmas. Very odd choice to write a character like that and the things he did to Nami/Robin... 😭
- The Sanji storyline about his original dream to be an invisible man... for my sake of how much I love the crew I'm gonna pretend that whole conversation didn't happen 🙂 Idk if its the time gap (the episodes im at being 20 years old) or a Japanese/anime culture thing, but I hate the constant perversion bit like with Brook asking to see panties and now this thing with Sanji or Absalom... probably my least fav thing about the show so far

But, again, overall I enjoyed watching this arc! Was fun, is a unique aesthetic, had lots of good moments and had a great finale! People told me they didn't like this one and I could see it both ways tbh depending what parts of One Piece are your favorite or if you REALLY didn't like some of the characters, but I enjoyed watching it :)
TLDR: Nothing happened.
On to Sabaody Archipelago! 🙂
