Citizens, please be aware that the City has put in place an ill-advised plan during the snow emergency. They are having police officers certified as EMTs respond to medical and trauma dispatches normally handled by IAFF Local 22 paramedics and EMTs. We have no idea what equipment and experience they may have or if they even know the correct hospital to take patients to. We also believe that State Law states that patients should be transported in certified medic units, not police vehicles. Be careful out there and stay safe.

Colonel Danny McKnight is best known as the commander of the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment during one of the most intense urban battles in modern U.S. military history—the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu. His leadership, resolve, and refusal to leave his men behind became legendary and later immortalized in the book and film Black Hawk Down.
Born in Columbus, Georgia, and raised in Rockledge, Florida, McKnight commissioned into the U.S. Army in 1973 after earning his degree from Florida State University. Throughout his military career, he served in a range of leadership roles, including assignments in Airborne and Infantry units, eventually becoming one of the most respected officers in the elite Ranger Regiment.
In Somalia, McKnight’s convoy was tasked with rescuing the crews of two downed Black Hawk helicopters after a mission to capture Somali militia leaders went awry. Facing relentless enemy fire, RPGs, and overwhelming odds, McKnight’s column fought through the streets of Mogadishu, repeatedly pushing forward to extract the trapped soldiers. His calm under fire and determination to reach his men became a defining moment of his career.
Despite being wounded during the fight, McKnight continued to lead, embodying the Ranger Creed—never leaving a fallen comrade behind. His actions and leadership contributed greatly to saving the lives of many Rangers and Delta operators caught in the chaos of that day.
