You understand that in a democracy citizens are responsible for holding their government accountable by asking questions, demanding answers and transparency, and ensuring public funds are used appropriately. Unless of course you are advocating that Canada become a totalitarian regime where you cannot criticize the government. On the flip side, the job of elected officials is to listen to citizens, address their concerns, and adjust policies as needed. While we pay incredibly high taxes, our public programs and services have deteriorated over the last number of years. Understandably people have questions are looking for answers and accountability. Gail, Canadians need to mature and engage in tough but necessary conversations. Shaming or gaslighting fellow citizens for holding their govement to account is childish and divisive—it just causes more division and must stop. Isn’t that what being Canadian is after all?!
