@colingorrie Hi - I am trying to get into Dead Languages Society - I subscribed a while ago, but haven't visited in some months. However, if I put in my email (stephenjarvis@hotmail.com) no link arrives, and it is not in junk. I cannot remember my password. Please help!

The second Death and Mr Pickwick Convention, DaMPCON2 - OK, it's a pub crawl to sites connected to the novel - will be taking place in London next Wednesday, April 8th. If you would like to come along, contact me, and I will send you the itinerary.

Quick Gorlworld update: 1- Nader deleted his smoking crack livestream because he’s a coward 2- We have to text our partners, every time we get out of bed to take a piss in the middle of the night, because no one needs the added stress of panicking about where their partner went

@AsdaServiceTeam If you check your direct messages you will see that I sent you a complaint on November 3rd regarding the Maidenhead Asda. I have not received a reply. Could you kindly look into this.

This is very special. One of my fans, musician Paul Thompson - he runs the Twang Tuition guitar school - has put together this 13-minute video in which he and a band play some of the songs in Death and Mr Pickwick, accompanied by images and narration. youtube.com/watch?v=S4OPuF…

I was recently contacted by a website called Shepherd - they ask authors to recommend five books on a theme of the author's choice. Here is the link to my recommendations: shepherd.com/best-books/tur…

@STEPHENJOHNEDW4 Oh God yes, I remember them. The thing is, though, they seemed funny to a lot of people at the time. Comedy is notorious for seeming dated. Morecambe and Wise were the biggest act on British TV, but a lot of their stuff no longer makes me laugh.

@STEPHENJOHNEDW4 So wrong. At his best no other writer can match him. He has: 1) Astonishing skill with words 2) Superb characterisations 3) Coverage of the whole range of human life. "No one has ever been so many men as this man." Problem is that language changes in the course of 400 years.

@STEPHENJOHNEDW4 I think there are deep historical roots to all this. The Venerable Bede saw the Anglo-Saxons Hengist and Horsa as agents of God's will, cleansing the country of the 'immoral' Britons. The white North Americans saw parallels between themselves and the Anglo-Saxons.

@STEPHENJOHNEDW4 Good point. I was actually looking at some material about Native Americans recently. However, with all of these things, one has to bear in mind that people of the past were not like people today - often, they saw colonialism as carrying out 'God's will'.

@STEPHENJOHNEDW4 It's a question of looking at what people at tweeted - and there are so many tweets out there, who has the time to look at them all? But sometimes, when you sign on, you see a tweet, just as I have seen yours now. I shall return to being more active on twitter for my next novel.
