I need to talk about Sen̓áḵw.
This word has been in the news for years, and I still hear it mispronounced constantly—by journalists, politicians, and well-meaning people who just haven't been shown how.
It's a word from the Squamish Language.

I can't figure out how to pronounce a W sound without a vowel sound after it!
Also, in awkward, the 'awk' and the following 'w' are in separate syllables of the word. awk-ward. How do you pronounce them as one syllable??

I want to put this decision in historical context. Its 2014. Rural Guinea. Hundreds have died and health resources are nonexistent. You are trying to protect your loved ones. Strangers, Contact tracers in PPE show up asking about your movements. /1
