“When the product is free, you are the product” I’m a huge admirer of your content and agree with the vast majority of what you say. However, while I agree with you that there needs to be urgency in regard to the development of AI infrastructure within Zimbabwe and the wider continent. I also urge caution when dealing with such behemoths in the AI sector. African data in particular is a highly valuable commodity for whoever is able to develop a mechanism to tap into it. It is the most under explored data set in the world because of the poor infrastructure challenges over the years. But, this also means it can be the most lucrative asset for any local player or Government that develops an ecosystem for it. We know the history of companies like Google. Just ask western enterprises what their experience with Big Tech has been like over the years. Caution is not always a bad thing. Just because you haven’t yet heard of any local players building local solutions, doesn’t mean they aren’t building.

A difficult but feasible business opportunity in Zimbabwe is a pension fund for informal sector. Rwanda has Ejo Heza Scheme with more than 3 million subscribers. Our economy needs savings that can be channeled through the capital markets. A challenge for a brilliant young person out there! Would listen to someone with an idea on this

To give you an idea of how expensive cloud has gotten, I picked up a server off FB marketplace today for $500. 128Gb of RAM and a 1Tb SSD. It will cost about $6/month in electricity to run it. An equivalent server in AWS would cost $950/mo. so I'll have payback in two weeks. I'm going to buy a GPU for $600, and the cost of that in AWS would be about $350/mo. I think if someone created a distributed garage hosting network it would kill it.

What frameworks are in place for international tech companies to engage with the ministry of ICT? There are key players in the AI space like ourselves who are ready to provide expert support and tools to accelerate Zimbabwe’s AI adoption. However, the major challenge we face is finding professional, structured and low cost means to engage with your ministry. Our engagements either get ignored or we bump into middlemen trying to earn a quick buck. Having grown up in Zimbabwe until the age of 6 and moving to the UK where I’m now a director at a tech giant, I’m keen to share my knowledge back home. And I can tell you I’m not the only one. There are hundreds of other Zimbabweans playing pivotal roles in the AI development of foreign countries wishing they could contribute but unfortunately the environment isn’t welcoming. May I suggest forming an AI cohort of experts both local and foreign to provide your ministry direct access to such individuals. I would also encourage you not to make the cohort a “private boys club”. Keep it dynamic and allow new contributors to have entry access. AI will not be determined by how big your company name is…Deepseek proved that to the world.

Firstly i thank Mr StriveMasiyiwa, for these vital insights at the #GAISAfrica2025. Absolutely, collaboration between governments and innovators is non-negotiable to unlock transformative investments in AI and tech. Our ministry is prioritizing: Streamlining regulations to fast-track tech infrastructure projects,Incentivizing R&D partnerships & private-sector co-investment and building secure digital ecosystems with reliable power, connectivity and talent pipelines. More investor friendly policies in the ICT sector are essential and urgent. Let’s deepen this dialogue. We are working on a lot of policies e.g ICT start up and venture capital policy,fintech and cryptocurrency policy and also look at implementing tax incentives in the ict sector so that we position Zimbabwe as the next tech hub. I invite you and fellow stakeholders to join our roundtable at ZITF named Digital Economy Conference and another next month to shape actionable solutions in ICT at the SEAM summit. Together, we can turn ambition into impact.

What frameworks are in place for international technology companies to engage the Zimbabwean government regarding AI technology and its implementation? As a Director of AI at one of the leading tech companies in the US and UK, I’m keen to introduce my fellow country to vital software which will enable them to get direct access to accelerated AI compute on the African continent as well as the AI software needed for the development of Afrocentric AI. The challenge I have is engaging the right individuals within the Zimbabwean government. Perhaps there is need to develop an AI cohort for Zimbabwe. Re #Kaspa Community: Just had in mind if anyone can help develop a desktop/iOS/Andorid APP as an AGI agent that can answer all questions about #Kaspa?
