@EweMoveBeverley Interesting article - Shame we can not read it unless subscribed. I would have thought not? What about if neighbour wants to do works on their existing property, I would assume you have no legal obligation to let them enter your property? If you have an a#sehole as a neighbour!

You'll want to be sitting down for this bit. Water companies are currently £82.7 billion in debt, have paid themselves £85 billion in dividends, leak over a trillion of litres of water per year, dump sewage for almost 4 million hours per year, have been convicted of over 1,200 criminal acts since 1989 and an average of 35% of your bill goes on nothing but paying more interest and yet more dividends. And not a single company has ever lost their operating licence. 👇
Prem Sikka@premnsikka

Yorkshire Water and Northumbrian Water have nearly 200 criminal convictions between them. On 6 August 2024, Ofwat fined them £47m and £17m for sewage dumping. Fines not paid, will not be paid. Firms claim to have invested. No penalty for abusing laws leftfootforward.org/2026/01/public…

Predictions for UK house prices in 2026 vary across sources. Nationwide forecasts 2-4% growth, Halifax 1-3%, Savills 4%, and Zoopla 1.5%, with stronger rises in the North and Midlands. However, some predict a decline due to high supply from landlords exiting amid new regulations. Factors include falling mortgage rates and affordability improvements.

More than 5,100 pubs have seen their rateable values **double**, the head of the Valuation Office Agency has said Jonathan Russell said that one in eight pubs saw their rateable values increase by 100%. On average they rose by 32% The government has said that it was unaware of the full facts of the revaluation But the Valuation Office said it informed both the Treasury and MHCLG what was happening at a sectoral level and was “very clear” on what the impact of the changes would be

Just had a depressing call with my accountant. After repeatedly going through figures, it seems that selling my flat- which has the loveliest couple- is the only sensible thing to do. It's simply costing me more than I earn from it They can't afford to buy themselves, and love the flat, but unfortunately it just doesn't make financial sense to keep them sadly. Just booked in a valuation next week. I'd like to congratulate @RachelReevesMP @AngelaRayner @SteveReedMP and @Keir_Starmer for their complete inability to understand the consequences of their policies

Cut My Tax

Many retirees would be unable to pay Labour's mansion tax, say specialists. Lucian Cook of Savills said many of those hit by a mansion tax raid would be older, long-term homeowners who had not prepared for a tax bill amounting to thousands each year. “It doesn’t follow that if you happen to live in a large house, you have the cash to pay this levy – older people may have been in the house for decades and it has appreciated," said Tom Bill of Knight Frank.

This ‘mansion tax’ doesn’t really make any sense, presumably it wouldn’t raise very much revenue in the short-term? It’s also extremely immoral. No wonder so many successful people have already left the UK.

🇬🇧 UK Chancellor Reeves is expected to fill a £40b budget hole with a "mansion raid". The highest council tax band "G" could be doubled from £3800 to £7600 and band "H" doubled from £4,560 to £9,120 per year. Other levies are also being considered but it's expected the wealthiest will carry more of the burden in the coming Autumn statement. @europa
