A clinical trial comparing cuff deflation & inflation during spon breathing trials found cuff deflation resulted in a significantly shorter wean time (3 vs 8 days, p<0.01) with significantly lower incidence of respiratory infection (20 vs 36%, p=0.02). pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23471512/
