Today's the feast of the Annunciation, and here it is in a c1530 tympanum in Dunfermline Abbey. It formed a lintel to a window in the Abbey guesthouse, which in 1598 was converted to a royal palace for James VI and Queen Anne, at which point it was plastered over, not to be revealed until repairs of the 1820s.

In Sweden, where Catholics make up less than two percent of the population and contemplative orders are underrepresented, Sister Elisabeth from the Carmelite monastery of Glumslöv offers an extraordinary look at a way of life that is almost completely unknown in Scandinavia.
