The kind of referrals in such big hospitals explains the numbers we are seeing, nothing shocking at all

@muriaso We need to have a transition to clear paths, a co and a mo, not another co in between the two, bsc co should be done away with as soon as yesterday, Haitusaidii

First, we do not have a shortage of HCW, infact we have many unemployed to a point others are going abroad. Second, the medical school curricula is a preserve for the ministry of health and not education. Reason? The ministry understands the country's healthcare needs and thus develop the curricula that aligns to these needs. Third, there is no shortcut from a diploma to a degree directly without doing the degree entirely from scratch. There is so much that is covered especially in preclinical years that is not covered in the diploma studies. Fourth, the issue of scrapping bsc oral health in MKU is valid as it created confusion on their job descriptions which matched those of dentists (bachelors of dentistry). This poses a risk to innocent Kenyans seeking dental services. Fifth, the clinical officers position was created when we had a serious shortage of MOs in Kenya since it was cheaper and faster to train. However, I agree with proponents asking for a pathway for them to transit to MBCHB as the time is ripe. Finally, and with all due respect, this post is sponsored to taint Dr Amoth in bad picture, while everyone knows he has been the captain that stabilized the ship (MOH) since the onset of COVID in 2020. DG MOH is not a political punching bag. Thank you so much. I yield

There is something very strange happening inside Kenya’s health sector. The same people trusted to deliver Universal Health Coverage (UHC) may actually be weakening the very system meant to serve millions of Kenyans. And the name at the center of it is Dr. Patrick Amoth. Let’s talk 🧵
