Uninformed take. This is a normal consensual wedding in Nepal of an adult lady with an adult man. What you are witnessing is the ritual of Vidai (the sending off of the bride). In Hindu weddings, this can be a very emotional moment both for the bride and her parents. It's not as though the girl is going too far geographically - she might just be going to the next house for all we know. The emotions here are about the symbolism of the event. The bride and her parents come to terms that she is now part of a different family and a different clan, that her parents are now going to be on #3 of her priority list, possibly #4 after a year or so. So a deep severance of felt by them. The rituals are somewhat designed to make this event emotional. The girl, for example, takes some grain from her husband's hands and tosses them behind her, without looking, at the feet of her parents. That's her "paying off her debts" for having been fed and watered by her parents all her life. At times, such scenes can be spontaneously beautiful in a heart-breaking way, and other times - like this one - may seem a little too forced. Never jump to conclusions without understanding the full context.
