Jour 138, orbite 2141 – Succès pour l’US EVA-95 ! #εpsilon • @esa@esaspaceflight@ESA_fr • @Space_Station@nasa@NASAJohnson@CNES

Day 138, orbit 2141 — US EVA-95: success! 🎉 @Astro_Jessica and @Astro_ChrisW completed yesterday their second EVA together, and Canadarm2 is in a good configuration now to go back to 100% operational. Congratulations to all the teams who made it happen! I had the privilege of leading the intravehicular (IV) operations, and I couldn't be happier of how well we worked together. While strictly following all procedures, we still managed to get Jessica and Chris into the airlock about 30 minutes ahead of schedule. That may not sound like much, but for the crew members in the suit, it’s 30 minutes of energy saved for the EVA marathon ahead, a huge advantage! 📸 ESA/NASA/Roscosmos: Thanks to cosmonaut Sergei K for the moral support and the pictures! #εpsilon •@esa@esaspaceflight@Space_Station@nasa@NASAJohnson

During a spacewalk early in his career, @astro_luca's helmet began to fill with water. As the water started to rise Luca couldn't breathe, communicate or even see, relying on his safety tether to return to the airlock - and safety. He handled the life-threatening crisis with so much calm and clarity that his heart rate stayed stable at a resting rate and colleagues at mission control couldn't even tell he was stressed. This is a story that is passed around the hallways at ESA as legend. It's a story that tells you more about an astronaut than any CV ever could. Luca is precise, composed and determined. He is exactly the right person for this role. A test pilot by training, with two missions to space, a commander of the International Space Station – he has seen spaceflight from every angle that matters. Yesterday I felt so much pride for Luca, as I caught a glimpse of his two daughters from the audience while they watched their father named part of the #ArtemisIII crew, in what must be one of the most emotive moments of his career. Caro Luca, siamo tutti orgogliosi di te. Buon volo! esa.int/Science_Explor…

Artemis III will push the boundaries of spacecraft operations in orbit. @ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano’s assignment as pilot reflects the depth of European expertise in human spaceflight and draws on his extensive operational experience in high-pressure situations. At the same time, ESA’s European Service Module (ESM) will once again provide the critical capabilities that power Orion, demonstrating Europe’s enduring role at the very heart of the Artemis programme. The news out of Houston today is a powerful recognition of ESA’s role in enabling humankind’s return to the Moon – and a key advancement in our partnership with @NASA. Europeans can take pride in being part of this exciting journey. #ArtemisIII @astro_luca

Been waiting for this moment. There is a lot in my head that I must process and very little has to do with leaving the planet. Today is my first step. I have never in my life felt peace like this.
