@FightersEdge1 Killer Instinct II Gold did eventually release for N64. Any thoughts on that sequel and the n64 home port?

I was sent to Winter CES in January 1995 by a Gaming Dev Company I was involved with. We were one of the first 2 PlayStation development Teams in America. All leading up that 1995 all the CES the Fighting game our Development Team was hearing about was Killer Instinct.
In those days there were a number of really respected Boutique Developers and Rare LTD, who developed KI for Nintendo was one of them.
We were able to get into the Killer Instinct preview by the Team and it looked really cool. The 3d preview renders of the characters were especially impressive. I can't remember if that preview was invite only or not.
We had understood that 'Killer Instinct' was being developed with a focus for an upcoming next Gen Nintendo platform to rival the PlayStation 1. When we saw the early renders it left us very impressed. The game showed lots of graphics promise which was the rage in this upcoming Graphics focused 3D capable Generation of consoles.
In the end KI released on SNES and so never realized it's full early potential on Console.

@ESmevold @na_gamesaru @Evo American machines were cheap particle board monstrosities that did nothing to protect the boards and monitors or facilitate stick/button repairs. Also they’re top heavy hell to move and you cant sit comfortably at them… so that’s a far more logical explanation….

Zbacks and other american cabs commonly used for fighters have a tray the board mounts on that can be slid out and control panels have hinges for easy access. Your explanation isn’t logical at all.

That's a really great question @HeyLookItsSkkra. And perhaps the answer to that question speaks to the heart of the oG SoCal Golden Era Culture more than anything
Those 'Casual' games always meant something. They were what we used to practice and remain sharp. Ngo, Jeff, Watts. All of us. That's where the pecking order of players really started back in the beginning.
And there was always that sort of pecking order when it came to that 'World's Finest Golden Era'. That order wasn't just what the Board said but what we perceived away from it.
That's where you first built your reputation. Not in Tournaments but in 'casual play'.
So even when Tomo might be experimenting a bit, or practicing something new or different, he'd always pull it in tighter if need be.
So the answer is...
No.
Kwang, Ngo and the others pretty much never won sets against Tomo, even outside of Tournament. When practicing with him, Tomo used to throw Jeff around like a ragdoll.
We still laugh about it, Jeff and I. 🥊

@FightersEdge1 Could Ngo, Vega, Kwang etc. win a 2/3 set against Tomo outside of tournaments? I know from interviews that Watson and Jeff pushed him very hard. But they all speak highly of the entire board down in that pic. The original legends. I'm curious how it went in casuals!

Tomo had a very strong Ryu and took a lot of pride in his Shoto play as did many oGs during the Golden Era. He had always played Ryu ever since Season 1 and used him for Tournament play during SF2 World Warrior Version 1.0.
Once Version 2.0 dropped that was the end of Ryu for Tomo on the Tournament side of things. He once again dusted off the competitive cobwebs of his Ryu during Hyperfighting.
Anyone who played Season one had to know Dahlsim. Tomo had an unbeatable Dahlsim in Season one and he still used Dahlsim as a Guile counter in Season 2.
I remember once at the World's Finest Tournament Tomo asked a player if he was going to play Guile v Guile and he said yes. I think it was Tim Cheng. Tomo winced... It was such a slow and boring kind of MU so Tomo just chose Dahlsim.
I laughed... 😂😂😂
Tomo never went to the dark side with Dictator, although he could have had a monster M. Bison. Yes he played Dictator now and again, but he was such a brain dead character that Tomo really didn't enjoy playing him.
Also since Dictator was the Character of choice for most players, Tomo was able to ride his Guile main through almost the entirety CE Season 2. 🥊

If you competed successfully during the World's Finest Golden Era, 2 things were sure to have occurred. You either won with or learned to beat Guile.
Some of the strongest Guiles ever came out of that Era. And some of the strongest counter Guile Mains as well.
Season One Tony Choi used Guile but practiced and Main'd other Counter Guile characters all season. It served him well.
Tomo Ohira and Willie Lee the #1 & #2 ranked players on the #WorldsFinestTournament Board that first Season, had 2 of the Strongest Guiles I've ever seen. They also had extremely strong Counter Guile Mains in Dahlsim.
No One could beat Willie's Guile or Dahlsim except Tomo, and no One could beat Tomo period.
Tomo is the best player I have ever seen, and Willie Lee is one of the strongest players of the World's Finest Golden Era. 🥊

There's more 37 Reloaded story to tell. Including how the blow up over a refusal to play on Big Blue affected a well run Tournament and Mikey's FT10 performance with Deep. Leading up the event had amazing hype and everyone there enjoyed Mike's Tournament.
I posted what I did today because I thought it important to share Mikey's highest regards for Deep, knowing that the 37 Reloaded story will take more time to write before I post it.

Hey Fam! I've got corrections to make on this story. I had spoken to @SuperDojo about 37 Reloaded a while back. When I wrote my Story here I misremembered one key fact about the disagreement about playing on Big Blue. 1. The disagreement over Big Blue happened in the Tournament side of the Event, NOT the FT10 with DeepFocus. It was with another player that refused to play on Big Blue, NOT DeepFocus. 2. Mikey went out of his way to praise DeepFocus over the phone with me. He reiterated several times that he was an absolutely cool and chill guy. Mikey said Deep absolutely respected Mikey as the TO. My apologies for mixing up the facts everyone. 🙏 In addition... Mikey told me that in fact there was indeed supposed to be Twin FT10's. One using Fight Sticks and the 2nd FT10 on the Big Blue Cabinet. That was something he'd never shared with me before. I'll considering writing a follow up story about 2023 37 reloaded sometime this next week to 10 days. 1981 brought the follow up to the Space Invaders National Championships in the 'Atari World Championships'.
Played on Atari's newly release Centipede video game, the 1981 'Atari World Championships' gave us the first woman's world Champion in Ok-soo Han who also happened to own my home Arcade...
