@iam_kingbee Ethiopia began using the green, yellow, and red colors in the 17th century. In 1896, it defeated Italy, remained uncolonized, and inspired other African nations to adopt these colors for the Pan-African flag in various arrangements.

And why is Ethiopia at the top of the list? Because of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam which was completed in 2023, but officially inaugurated in 2025. This dam’s primary purpose is electricity production to relieve Ethiopia's acute energy shortage and to export electricity to neighbouring countries. With an installed capacity of 5.15 gigawatts, the dam is the largest hydroelectric power plant in Africa and among the 20 largest in the world. Guess what? Financed all from within Ethiopia! In 2020, @lfreemansafrica, a dear friend and expert on African development wrote this: “Approximately 600 million Africans, almost half of the continent’s population, are not connected to a central energy grid. The overwhelming majority of them reside in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). More than 65 million Ethiopians, 40-45% of the population, do not have access to electricity. While Ethiopia suffers from one of the lowest per capita levels of electrical energy consumption, Egypt’s population of 100 million has 100% access. When completed, the GERD will increase Ethiopia’s power generation from its current level of 4,500 MW to close to 11,000 MW, which will make it the second largest energy producer in SAA, behind South Africa. Ethiopia has already entered into agreements to export its excess electricity to other nations in East Africa.” —— So Ethiopia is now set to be the engine for developing all of Africa.
