For 3 nights in a row now, after baby boy’s ~2am feed, he spends the next 4 hours grunting. Not crying. Not fussing. Not even really awake, but just squirming and grunting in his bassinet. Genuinely at a loss as to what to do about it but it means I don’t sleep at all after 2am!

When I was in elementary school, my mom started going blind. Retinitis pigmentosa. No family history. No treatments. No cure. I got lucky. She didn’t. It led me to build @OrchidInc so my baby —and everyone else's—gets to win the genetic lottery—avoid blindness— and hundreds of severe genetic diseases. Today, the New York Times covered the tech we’ve spent years building: Whole genome embryo screening for *hundreds* of diseases. Not in theory. Not in mice. In humans. In IVF centers. Right now.

🔥Get a *core* temperature
🔥Dunk your patients in ice water
🔥Cool as quickly as possible to avoid rhabdo, renal failure, and DIC

Are you an NYC doc on shift in the ED today? It’s much warmer #NYCMARATHON weather than usual. Remember to check your runner patients for hyperthermia (core temps!) and cool in an ice water bath.
