You've chosen to head west with the family to seek your fortune in California in 1849. You've outfitted your covered wagon, and it now weighs almost 2500 pounds. It's filled with everything necessary for a 2000-mile journey across the prairies, mountains, and desert. This wagon is your mobile home for the next 5-6months! It's hard to imagine people went forth with only their faith and what they could carry inside here.

251 years ago this week, a 6'2" Vermont moonshiner with no military experience and no authorization from anyone captured the most strategically important fort in North America at dawn, and accidentally won the Revolutionary War before it had really started. It's May 1775. Lexington and Concord happened three weeks ago. The colonies have muskets but almost no cannon. The British, sitting in Boston, have plenty. Everyone knows that without artillery, the rebellion is over by autumn. Everyone also knows where to get artillery: Fort Ticonderoga. A stone star-fort on Lake Champlain, bristling with roughly 80 heavy guns. The British call it "the Gibraltar of America." It's the bottleneck of the entire continent. Whoever holds it controls the invasion route between Canada and New York. What the rebels don't know, but Ethan Allen has heard, is that "the Gibraltar of America" is, by 1775, mostly held together by moss. The walls are crumbling. The garrison is 48 men, many of them invalids and pensioners. The commander hasn't even been told a war started. Allen is not a soldier. He's a frontier land speculator who runs an armed militia called the Green Mountain Boys, originally formed not to fight the British, but to beat up New York surveyors trying to seize Vermont farms. New York has literally put a bounty on his head. He decides to go take the fort anyway. Halfway there, a man named Benedict Arnold shows up on horseback with a Massachusetts colonel's commission, waving paperwork, demanding command of the expedition. The Green Mountain Boys threaten to go home if Arnold is in charge. Allen and Arnold agree to "joint command," which mostly means walking next to each other in furious silence. They reach the lake at midnight. Problem: they have 200 men and exactly two leaky boats. By 3 AM only 83 have made it across. Dawn is coming. Allen decides to attack with what he has, meaning roughly 1 American for every half-cannon inside the fort. A lone British sentry sees them coming through the wicket gate, levels his musket at Allen's chest, and pulls the trigger. The musket misfires. He runs. The Americans pour in. Total resistance to the capture of British North America's most important inland fortress: one wet flintlock. Allen pounds on the officers' quarters with the flat of his sword. Lt. Jocelyn Feltham stumbles out half-dressed, asking by what authority Allen is there. Allen, by his own later account, roars: "In the name of the Great Jehovah and the Continental Congress!" (Other witnesses remembered the wording as substantially more profane. The Continental Congress, for its part, had no idea any of this was happening.) Captain Delaplace, the actual commander, emerges still buttoning his trousers and surrenders the fort, its 78 cannons, its garrison, and roughly 30,000 musket flints without a shot fired by either side. Casualties: zero. Time elapsed: about ten minutes. But here's the part that actually changed history. Those cannons sat at Ticonderoga for six months until a 25-year-old, 280-pound Boston bookseller named Henry Knox, who had learned artillery from books in his own shop, volunteered to go get them. In the dead of winter, Knox and his men dragged 59 cannons weighing 60 tons across 300 miles of frozen rivers, the Berkshires, and unbroken snow, on 42 ox-drawn sleds. One gun fell through the ice of the Hudson. They fished it out and kept going. It took 56 days. On the night of March 4, 1776, those cannons were hauled silently up Dorchester Heights overlooking Boston Harbor. The British woke up on March 5 to find every ship in the harbor and every redcoat in the city under the muzzles of guns that, six months earlier, had belonged to them. Eleven days later, the British evacuated Boston. They would never hold it again. An unauthorized raid by 83 backwoodsmen, led by a wanted man and a future traitor, against a fort defended by a captain in his pajamas, became the artillery that drove the British army out of the largest city in the American colonies. Easiest W in American history. Possibly the most consequential ten minutes of the 18th century.

NEW: Footage shows the moment an individual walked on the Denver airport runway and stood in front of a Frontier Airlines jet. Authorities say the person scaled a fence about two minutes before being struck on the runway. The collision caused an engine fire, and the pilot was forced to stop the plane from taking off. "Runway 17L is closed. I do have limbs on the runway. I believe the aircraft struck an individual," a first responder reportedly said. ABC News reports that the person was "at least partially consumed" by the engine. 12 people on board were injured, and five were taken to the hospital.

"It's your fault for not wanting to get stabbed to death by a black 'schizophrenic' career criminal the judicial system refuses to punish or take off the streets" Successful, productive people used to live in the cities. If you want that to happen again, bring back hangings for all property and violent crimes. Then the people who have something to lose will go back to the cities, which are generally more convenient and conducive to civilized society. Until the crime problem is solved, the flight to the suburbs will remain in effect

Years ago, I worked for Scientific Atlanta making cable modems. Cisco bought us. "Synergy" meant firing all of the IT folks and doing any support from some number in India. Our phone system was run by IT. It required a 8 digit code to access messages, changing monthly. I kept my current code on my whiteboard. You need your old code to set a new one. Boss man decides our cubes are messy and tells janitor to clean our whiteboards. No more code. No more access to messages. Indian IT never heard of us, doesn't know where Atlanta is. I was not able to access a message on my office phone for the last three years before I retired.

The monthly automated email from IT demanding a password update just ruined my morning. The system requires 12 characters, a number, an uppercase letter, and a blood sacrifice. I can no longer use any of my previous 24 passwords. I've already cycled through the names of my pets, my childhood street, and my favorite bands. I am officially out of personal lore to secure my access to the company HR portal. I tried "LetMeIn123!" but the system flagged it as a security risk. Apparently, I need a special character that isn't a punctuation mark. What does that even mean? Do they want me to insert a hieroglyph? I spent 20 minutes smashing my keyboard until it accepted a string of absolute gibberish. Now I have a random string of letters written on a sticky note attached directly to my monitor. I've successfully protected the company data from Russian hackers but made it fully accessible to the janitorial staff. Next month I'm just going to quit.

His happened to me at Target too You go to purchase brand new Apple AirPods Pro or AirPods Max You open the box, everything seems normal, the sound quality is good, they look normal but then they don’t stay connected. If you play them loud it crackles a bit When you take them in to try and find our what’s wrong you learn the serial number is fake Someone else bought the AirPods new, put extremely high quality ones back into the box, returned them and kept the official Apple ones Target puts them back on the shelf and sells the fake ones as new then does everything possible not to allow a return Again, this happened to me too so be careful

🇬🇧 Most British schoolchildren are taught about Magna Carta. They are taught it was sealed in twelve fifteen at Runnymede. They are taught it is the foundation of English liberty. They are taught it is one of the most important documents in human history. They are not taught what came next. They are not taught about the eighty years between twelve fifteen and twelve ninety-five when ordinary Englishmen forced three successive kings to write down, for the first time in any kingdom in medieval Europe, what English law was, what English liberty was, and how an English king must govern. They are not taught about the Charter of the Forest, which restored the right to graze, gather firewood, and live on common land, and which remained in force for seven hundred and fifty-four years. They are not taught about the Provisions of Oxford in twelve fifty-eight, often called England's first written constitution, which placed the king under a council of fifteen and required Parliament to meet three times a year. They are not taught about the Provisions of Westminster in twelve fifty-nine, which subjected the barons themselves to the same law they had forced upon the king. They are not taught about Simon de Montfort, an earl born in France who died for England, who summoned the first Parliament in English history to include ordinary commoners alongside the great lords. They are not taught about the Statute of Marlborough in twelve sixty-seven, which is the oldest piece of statute law in the United Kingdom still in force today. ⚖️ Seven hundred and fifty-nine years old. If you've ever taken a debt to court in England, you've used it. 🏠 If you've ever rented a home, you've been protected by it. 👑 If a creditor can't lawfully drag your possessions into the street to settle what you owe, that's because of a law signed seven hundred and fifty-nine years ago. They are not taught about the Model Parliament of twelve ninety-five, summoned by Edward the First, which became the shape of every English Parliament since. Eighty years. Three successive kings. The first written constitution in any kingdom in medieval Europe. It was not given to them. It was not handed down from God or king or Pope. ✍️ It was written. By Englishmen. For England. 🇬🇧 The British write their own history. They always have. This one needed more than a thread. The full story is in our video, watch it below 👇 Help us remember who we are. 🚨WHAT ON EARTH?! Federal mental health examiners of the DOJ's Bureau of Prisons have determined that the man who m*rdered Iryna Zarutska, Decarlos Brown Jr is: "Not Competent to Proceed” in his federal case because he: “Has a mental illness… and a mental defect” DeCarlos Brown Jr. could now receive TAXPAYER FUNDED therapy, counseling, and medical treatment. I'm so angry I can hardly see straight. HE HAD 14 PRIOR ARRESTS. Fourteen!! There is a 73-month armed robbery sentence on his record. THEY HAD EVERY REASON TO KEEP HIM LOCKED UP... ...and what did they do? They released him on CASHLESS BAIL. Then he m*rdered Iryna. AND NOW... ...after st*bbing a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee in the neck on a train CLEARLY ON VIDEO TAPE FROM MULTIPLE ANGLES AND SAYING "I GOT THAT WHITE GIRL..." ...the same system is PUMPING THE BRAKES and nervous he's "too unwell" to face consequences. State court already ruled it. The federal examiners just signaled the same thing. So the trial probably gets delayed. Again. And probably again after that. Every delay is ANOTHER MONTH the system protects him from the accountability it FAILED TO DELIVER BEFORE HE M*RDERED IRYNA!!!!! They couldn't be bothered to keep him off the streets when it might have saved her life. Now they can't be bothered to make him face what he did. Until Americans wake up and demand this system be torn down and rebuilt, there will be more Irynas. We don't have to live like this.

McDonald’s tray etiquette, what’s the actual rule? Saw a situation the other day where a group finished eating, left their trays on the table, and headed out. An older customer stopped them and called them “disrespectful” for not cleaning up after themselves. It escalated quickly. I’ve noticed people usually clean up after themselves pretty well, and then McDonald’s staff wipes down the tables. So it surprised me when this turned into a confrontation. Is there an unspoken standard now where customers are expected to fully bus their own tables? Or is it still expected that McDonald’s cleans up after customers? Curious what everyone thinks, do you usually clean your own tray at McDonald’s or just leave it?

Why do clients pay us $1,200 an hour when software can summarize a commercial lease in 2 seconds? A private equity VP asked me this over lunch yesterday. He felt very smug about his new Claude Max subscription. I put my fork down and asked him who goes to prison if the software misses a toxic indemnification clause. He blinked and said no one. Exactly. I explained that he is not paying for my reading comprehension. He is paying for a throat to choke. If a deal goes south, you can't depose an algorithm. You can't sue a language model for malpractice to save your own bonus. He stared at his salad in silence. I ordered an expensive dessert and billed it to his account. Silicon Valley sells tools.
