Astrill VPN has many problems these days in China Are they falling out of favor with the government?

I agree that they each do it because of what you explain but it remains a massive bet by each with immensely consequential strategic implications. Imagine if the world does indeed move towards renewables and the US is the laggard in this regard: is that a good strategic position to be in?

This absolutely stunning chart comparison by the NYT might prove to be the most important geopolitical visualization of the 21st century. The two major superpowers are each cornering a competing energy platform. China bets everything on clean energy, the US on fossil fuels. It's incredibly rare, probably even unprecedented in history, to see 2 superpowers making completely opposite trillion-dollar bets on the underlying technology that literally powers the world. Let's see how it plays out... One interesting related statistic: 87% of the Global South's new energy investments go to clean tech (rmi.org/wp-content/upl…), so it's pretty crystal clear which future they back. @macastel3 I cannot understand why China would agree to US 50%+ import duties on Chinese products. Am I missing something here?

So at the end the day there is no deal but something has been agreed: It’s still the 30% tax (or 50 including old tax) And a 6 months rare earth concession in exchange for less restriction on US tech exports and student visas Why China not fighting for tax reduction? Maybe they are waiting for the 20% fentanyl tax to be cut at some point when prices will be increased to consumers

I'm officially petitioning to change the definition of what we consider a "zombie restaurant chain." We used to think of struggling, no-growth brands as "zombie chains." But as we're getting a bunch of concepts that are coming back from the dead, aren't those zombies?

@macastel3 Do these EV companies make money at these prices? I read that there are 120+ EV makers in China. Seems like a huge red ocean to me.

@Codie_Sanchez Easy to say until there is a big crisis then all the Wall Street and big corporations will beg for bailouts and small business will get screwed again.

@allenzg @ShangguanJiewen @shaunrein True, but Chinese authorities don’t want many journalists in the country and then complain the country is misunderstood. Seagull reporting is not effective journalism in my view.

@shaunrein All western journalists covering China should be living in China during and throughout their coverage. You can't fairly and knowledgably 'cover' China from Los Angeles, New York and London.
