Michael Scott taught us to carbo load on race day. So, here we go, prepping for the #CityHall half marathon on budget today. $8.5b. Holding the line on ❗️public safety funding, ❗️restore Parks maintenance cuts, ❗️restore Neighborhood Associations & District Coalition funding. At the Daily Feast in district for a 7am breakfast. #pdx

Today, we passed the Sidewalk Improvement and Pavement Project (SIPP)—a major investment in sidewalks for both District 4 and our neighbors in District 1. In a city that claims to value accessibility, we can all agree: anything is better than mud. When the data clearly shows that parts of Districts 4 and 1 have been consistently excluded from PBOT’s sidewalk plans, I stop caring about the "plan" and start focusing on action. East and Southwest Portland have been left out for too long. No more.

I always look forward to meeting with neighborhood associations and engaging directly with constituents. This week, I joined the @DTPortlandNA and really appreciated the thoughtful, detailed questions from members. Thanks for having me!

The hard truth is: new housing development has slowed, and we’re falling short of the numbers we need to keep Portland on track. This SDC exception, championed by @GovTinaKotek and @MayorKWilson, is exactly what Portland needs to bring developers back. It’s a signal of good faith that makes investing in Portland more attractive. As Finance Chair, I look forward to working through the details to help deliver what Portlanders need: more homes and apartments, more tax revenue, fewer people living on the streets, and one step closer to a fully revitalized city. Let’s go, Boom Loop!

Budget season officially kicks off today. With the Mayor’s Proposed Budget now released, City Council begins the work of digging into the details—offering amendments, debating priorities, and making tough trade-offs to ensure our shared values with Portlanders are reflected in the final budget. The next five weeks will be intense—but I won’t lie, I love budget season. My General Fund priorities are clear: 1. Protect public safety—no reductions. 2. Fully fund Portland Parks & Recreation, especially access to local community centers, youth sports, and afterschool programming. These are key to public safety and public livability. 3. Restore park maintenance- open restrooms, clean spaces, fast response 4. Expand the PCEF sidewalk program into Districts 1 and 4. 5. Preserve funding for Portland Solutions—especially PEMO, IRP, and SSCC. 6. No cuts to shelter capacity. These priorities will be my focus as Council moves toward adopting the final budget on June 18. Stay tuned.

Sitting on half a billion dollars while facing a budget emergency doesn’t make sense. That money should be put to work—producing results and prioritizing core city services like roads, parks, and public safety. oregonlive.com/environment/20…

👏👏👏 This is an exciting news!! Non-law enforcement response able to expand services. We have been advocating for this and look forward to PSR assisting with the shuttling of intoxicated individuals to the soon-to-be-opened sobering beds or withdrawal management or treatment services. Thank you @PortlandGov portland.gov/mayor/keith-wi…

On March 24, the Finance Committee will hold a hearing on Urban Forestry’s code enforcement, compliance, and fees. Portland’s City Codes should work for residents, not against them. How have Urban Forestry’s policies impacted your life? wweek.com/news/2025/03/0…

Lincoln Track and Field starts today! **** For some, it’s about defending the streak. For others, it’s about developing a new passion and trying something new. For all, it’s about loving your teammates and being the best version of yourself.

I’ve asked the Finance Committee to add budget work sessions so City Council can evaluate every last dollar. Because we don’t have a budget problem, we have a priorities problem.

I’m not asking Portlanders for more levy taxes while we’re sitting on half a billion dollars that could make neighborhoods safer, parks cleaner, and help improve responsive public safety teams.

If I added up every general fund contingency I’ve seen in my career, it wouldn’t equal what PCEF staff wants to hold in one year.

The city has a huge budget and as Finance Chair, I take my role seriously. That’s why I added (TRIPLED) the number of budget work sessions beyond the 2 the city administration proposed.

We have two coffee pots in our office. Everyone stops by in the morning to get a cup. It’s a great way to get a pulse on what is going on in the building. Also, if you take the last cup you make the next pot, no matter what your rank is.
