Inside a wound battery cell, the part that keeps the core from buckling has traditionally been a rigid pin down the middle. The pin's protection comes at a price: solid rigid material occupies a large portion of the core, adding design inflexibility and manufacturing cost. Removing it is not a free move either. In mandrel-free 18650 cells, mechanical collapse of the core has been reported as the primary degradation mode in cold cycling. In December 2024, Tesla filed a patent application, US 2026/0171607 A1, that hands the pin's job to something else entirely. Not a stronger pin, and not a redesign of the core. The application credits it with protecting the cell while saving manufacturing time and cost. What takes the pin's place is in the article. 😉

It's called html-in-canvas, a new experimental Chrome feature that renders live HTML directly as a 3D texture. here's what it does: → draws any DOM element (dashboards, forms, entire app UIs) straight into a canvas → full CSS still works, flexbox, grid, shadows, backdrop-filter, animations → text stays selectable, inputs stay typeable, screen readers still see it → auto syncs with your DOM on every paint → pipes into any WebGL shader → distort, curl, refract, warp the wildest part: someone already built an html-cloth plugin that turns your live UI into simulated fabric.

My honest take on @Kimi_Moonshot K3 👀 As soon as I got access to Kimi, I put it through the exact same 3D football stadium challenge I had previously given Claude Fable 5. Fable 5 finished in under an hour. Kimi took almost 3 hours 🥵 At first, that was a very bad impression but i decided to see what's taking it this much of time. It was running E2E tests, validating desktop, tablet, and mobile, taking screenshots, finding failures, fixing them, even adapting for low end hardware and low FPS before moving on. All these that Fable 5 never did. None of it because it wasn't able to run this WebGL app on a headless browser. Kimi also shipped a clean React + Three.js codebase with proper components while Fable, as you might have checked codebase, generated one big HTML file with everything stuffed in. With all of this happening, it felt like I was doing more "Vibe Coding" with Fable 5 and more "Vibe Engineering" with Kimi K3. It feels like it's spending more time making sure the code actually works and easily scalable. Really impressed so far. More Kimi K3 experiments coming soon.
