@frankiemacd Full precision calculator to the rescue. Rounded to 3 decimals the result is 9.999e+6926 mph or 1.491e+6918 times the speed of light, fast enough to cross the entire observable universe in 1.947e-6900 of a second, or 3.611e-6857 of a plank second.

@teeteegone Aw man, this ship is reminding me of something that I can't put my finger on. Did you post a picture of it on r/worldbuilding a month or so ago?
English

@neconamazu_sf Oh Yes!!! Oh man, I've been hoping someone would do a game like this ever since Children of a Dead Earth ceased development.
English

@scooterhath @CultureCrave I mean, [redacted] physically can't speak English so I imagine they will be subtitled.
English

@mikusingularity @Christo25568024 Its funny, 3 days after you posted this they starting posting updates on the discord server again. Glad to see development is still happening!
English

@Christo25568024 @progValtiel I apologize for not mentioning it earlier.
Someone on the Discord server emailed the author and said that they were still working on it (just not publically).

Extrapolation/Heliosphere (currently in alpha) aims to be the first video game to simulate the scale of "millions (and billions and trillions) of people living and working in space."
Planned megastructures include O'Neill cylinders, Bishop rings, and Banks orbitals.

Robotbeat🗽 ➐@Robotbeat
The biggest problem with @KerbalSpaceP 1 is it’s too nostalgia focused (flags and footprints, etc). I hope KSP 2 is more about enabling the future of millions of people living and working in space.
English

@Christo25568024 @mikusingularity As of May they are back! They've been posting quite a bit on their discord server, the most recent development post was from last month.
English

@mikusingularity @progValtiel raising my hopes only to immediately dash them.
I hope you stub your toe three times today.

@aevris_ The luxuries of not fighting the tyranny of the rocket equation.

@ProbsNotAliens Nice, so glad to hear this pod again! Found a correction at 33:35. Time doesn't move faster on the surface of a neutron star, it actually moves a bit slower. The reason why the aliens were so fast was because their biology use much stronger nuclear reactions rather than chemical.

Gavrilo Princip probably wasn't munching on a sandwich when he decided to kick off World War I. This, along with other thrilling things we did wrong, is in this one. nebula.tv/probablynotali…

@jobMendoza13798 @Trey_Explainer I mean, the banner art on his page and the intro animation on some of his videos gives some good scaly vibes.
English

@macyagilliam Everyone's talking about the Modern Art Ad, as they should, but its also great how he's at terminal 42 for some Douglas Adams energy as well.
English

@sbarky38 @mikusingularity I hope this post is in jest, cause this line of thinking is how the most heinous acts of history were justified.
English

There are even more radical degrowthers who want to regress living standards by centuries.

mikusingularity 🚀🪐@mikusingularity
@Truthful_ast There's also degrowthers who want everyone to return to 1960s living standards (or earlier) and stay there forever.

@Realducklord1 @FloWendelborn @CherryTruthy @SOPHONTSIMP I know about that thought experiment and agree it's a good metaphor for modern chat bots. But there is nothing we know that says it will be true for all AI's we ever build. It's far to early to say if consciousness is unique biological brains and can never be replicated.
English

This reminds me of a paper which found out which gene got knocked out in snakes to make them limbless, and they proved it by knocking out the same genes in mice. Lo and behold, the mice had no limbs.

Barladera@barladera
had this stuck in my head 🥲
English

@Realducklord1 @FloWendelborn @CherryTruthy @SOPHONTSIMP Current "AI" is not conscious, I don't disagree about that. The thing I took umbrage with was your claim that it *cannot* be. We simply do not know enough about how consciousness works to make firm statements like "AI can never be conscious".
English

@Adabear_Art Wait, that would mean you have 3 points. You get a point for each of the things you *haven't* done.
English

@leanmelee @loybeek @edandersen @jdcmedlock You're both right, the term heat pump is often used as a general term for any machine that pumps heat against a thermal gradient, so refrigeration is a subset of heat pumps. The term is also often used more specifically to refer to reversible heat pumps for heating and cooling.
English

@loybeek @edandersen @jdcmedlock Similar principles, but all of the ones you listed are most always just refrigeration. The difference is a heat pump is able to produce both usable cooling and heating and typically have a reversing valve. A refrigerator is as much a heat pump as a car engine is.
English

The DNC is gonna go wild when this man shows up and gives a speech on proper dishwasher usage and the importance of awnings and heat pumps

🚨 #BREAKINGNEWS There is a scheduled gap in tonight's DNC schedule that the special guest is only known by a handful of people. 🚨

@Beesejar @Blackmoor_Film The original said judge, I'm talking about the phrase you replied with where you replaced judge with hear.
